Project Spotlight  - Holiday Festivities
By Jansyn Tropea, ADC Activities Manager

The ADC had a BUSY holiday season full of performances, visitors and festivities!

Our holiday season was kicked off with our Annual Cookie Sale.  Each year the Friends of the VNA of Somerset Hills generously host the sale with all proceeds benefiting the ADC directly. Thank you Friends! It is always a fun and popular affair!

The ADC showed their holiday spirit throughout the community, as we participated in the 41st Annual Festival of Trees at the Environmental Education Center in Basking Ridge.  Members hand made embossed clay decorations  to adorn a tree which was on display throughout the month of December for the community to see.

We had many talented performers visit the ADC including Margaret W., concert pianist, the Ridge A Capella Choir, the Das/Underhill/Kam families and our own staff member Sona's daughters Maya & Mira! We were blessed to have them share their time and talents with us again this year!

The ADC hosted holiday festivities which included our Annual Caregiver & Member Holiday Party (hosted by the Friends as well), and our 2nd Annual VNA Crazy Holiday Sweater Parade. A new addition to the season, we welcomed our Wellness Center Neighbors to help us "Rock In" the Holidays with performer Sal Di Bianca.  A great time was had by all!

Broadening our Horizons at the Adult Day Center
By Jansyn Tropea, ADC Activities Manager

Throughout the year members have the opportunity to 'travel' the world safely in their chairs at the ADC and learn about many foreign lands. Our goal is to broaden the horizons of our members and connect them with the broader world and other cultures outside of the ADC, while at the same time spurring memories on their past travels and encouraging sharing.

In 2018 the Morris Museum and Museum of Early Trades & Crafts, Environmental Education Center as well as multiple volunteers shared information and experiences from around the globe including the Caribbean, Ancient Greece, Switzerland and Israel. M embers also experienced a 'virtual safari' and traveling to Africa, as well as Egypt. In 2019 we have contracted the Morris Museum to continue the travel theme with their Traveler Series program.  Members sometimes see locales for the first time or can re-visit them!  All are encouraged to share their memories on their travel and friends around the world.  If you or your families would like to present any travel experiences please let us know, we'd love to have you!
February is American Heart Month
From the Nurse's Desk

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. To prevent heart disease and increase awareness of its effects, the ADC is proudly participating in American Heart Month.

You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:
  • Watch your weight.
  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
  • Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
  • Get active and eat healthy.
Corporate Day of Caring: Sanofi

Sanofi employees recognized MLK Day with a month of service by joining our members in creating birdhouses for our continued service to the community. The ADC continues to partner with Brad Henry, Basking Ridge resident, in his community service project to benefit the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church's Food Pantry - God's Co-op Pantry. Brad provided the bird house pieces and our members, along with Sanofi volunteers, designed and painted them. The birdhouses will be on display  and for sale  this spring at local English and Crane Farms. Thank you Brad and Sanofi for your continued support!
