Kevin Taaffe elected Sr. Vice President of Regional Operations Board

The IISE membership has voted, and congratulations to Kevin Taaffe on being elected as the new Senior Vice President of IISE's Regional Operations Board. The members of this Board develop policy and provide strategic direction for the effective operation of IISE's regions and chapters in the U.S. and Canada.

Having served for three years as Regional Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic Region, Kevin brings a wealth of experience to this position. He is well qualified to lead IISE's chapters and regions to even greater successes!  He will serve a three-year term.

Kevin is the Harriet and Jerry Dempsey Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. He  has a B.S. and M.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering from the University of Florida. 

Newly-elected Regional Vice Presidents start terms on April 1 

 

Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs) are the strategic leaders for IISE regions and  provide leadership and assistance to chapter officers and members in their regions. RVPs serve three-year terms on the IISE Regional Operations Board.

Great Lakes 2018 Regional Conference exceeds expectations!

Hosted by The Ohio State University chapter
Three hundred fifty attendees gathered at The Ohio State University on Feb. 2-4 for an outstanding IISE regional conference. Two hundred eighty-six attendees were students from 11 different universities!  The conference offered and delivered tours, networking events, paper competitions and notable speakers. The opening speaker was Jordan Davis, the Director of the Smart City Project in Columbus, Ohio; keynote speaker was Rob Savage, retired COO of YUM brands and alumni of Ohio State's ISE department!  Read all about the conference 





The company showcase allowed attendees to see some of the incredible things industry sponsors are doing in the digital transformation space. A few highlights included Honda's lift assist designed to limit workplace back injuries as well as DHL's virtual reality googles to help the picking process in the warehouses.

  • On Feb. 28, professional chapter ATLANTA held its Atlanta All Hands Remote Conference Call. There are a ton of great resources provided by IISE to help gain skills, recognition, and expertise in your career field. Chapter members on this call found out some of the resources that are already at their disposal and participated in an ideation to provide input on other ways IISE can help.

Virginia Tech hosts "BeBold" Leadership Conference

Virginia Tech IISE hosted a half-day Leadership Conference following the theme of "BeBold". Reaching over 90 students from a diverse set of majors, the Torgersen Leadership Summit gave attendees access to two incredible keynote speakers, three breakout sessions, and a catered networking reception. The chapter received incredibly high praise for the success of the day. Highlights include keynote addresses from Betty Chao, CEO and Founder of Westech International Inc., Michael Foss, head of Logistics Optimization, Compliance & Controls for Amazon Transportation Services, and a Young Professionals Panel.
Correction: Professional Chapter #75, Central Connecticut should have 
been listed as having earned the GOLD Award in the 2017 Newsletter Competition Awards in the last issue of  Chapter Leader News. Brian Nathanson is the editor of the chapter newsletter.
  Wichita chapter holds Bi-Annual Dinner and Award Ceremony

Fifty members and guests of the Greater Wichita professional chapter of IISE gathered for the bi-annual chapter dinner meeting and awards ceremony on the evening of January 20 at the new Experiential Engineering Building (EEB) on the Innovation Campus at Wichita State University (WSU). Joining the professional members were members of the IISE student chapters at Wichita State University and Kansas State University (KSU).
