Did you ever have a car where the transmission just wasn't working correctly? I've had transmissions go bad twice in cars I drove - actually it was twice in the same car. Before the problem was serious, I knew there was something not right. I remember well a long 30-mile trip to get my Oldsmobile down to my father-in-law's garage many years ago. I had to stop every so often, shut off the car, and then restart it so the transmission would engage after it had slipped out. I made it, but just barely.
This week I test drove a used car with a manual transmission, and as soon as I put it into fourth gear I knew something was very wrong. The high-pitched whine associated with the spinning of the gears when accelerating was not normal. The young woman who was doing the test drive demurred a bit, suggesting we could ask someone when we got back. I assured her it had a problem. When we got back, her manager confirmed that they were aware of the problem and had lowered the price on the vehicle accordingly. Which explained why it seemed like such a good deal.

Thursday Afternoon Book Study |
The Thursday Book Study is back and is meeting
1:00 pm each week. We will be reading Lamb, The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal.
"The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine sacrifice after his thirtieth birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years -- except Biff, the Messiah's best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in the divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work 'reminiscent of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams'."

Safeguarding God's Children - February 26 & March 3 |
The Episcopal Church is committed to providing a safe and loving environment for our children and youth to come and explore their faith and spirituality. One of the ways we do our best to accomplish this is training our children and youth workers, as well as our church leaders in the prevention of sexual abuse happening with any children trusted in our care. Mother Katie will be leading training on what this looks like at Christ Church. We encourage our parents to take the time to look at the training the Episcopal church offers its church leaders called Safeguarding God's Children (click
here), as well as come to our training sessions either on February 26, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm or March 3, from 12:30 - 2:00 pm. This will help you understand how we can keep our children safe while they are at their church.
This is difficult material to be absorbed and hard to face. Unfortunately, the abuse of the more vulnerable happens regularly. The Episcopal church chooses to face these difficult truths for the health and wholeness of all those who seek the benefits found in being a member of the body of Christ. Please feel free to contact Christ Church clergy if you are in need of pastoral care - we are here for you. Contact Mtr. Katie at
[email protected] for more information.
