Simple Skin Care Routine
Taking care of your skin may seem like a difficult task when there's so many products to choose from, however there are 5 simple skin steps for an easy and effective way to ensure healthy and beautiful skin.
- Cleanse
Daily cleansing of your skin removes dirt, debris, germs, oil and cosmetic product build up.
- Exfoliate
Exfoliating once or twice a week, in the winter, removes the top layer of dead skin cells, allowing for new cells to produce.
- Tone
Toning is effective in removing any dirt, oil, or makeup that the cleanser was not able to pick up. This step also restores skin to it's natural ph.
- Moisturize
The last step at night keeps the skin hydrated and prevents the appearance of flaky or dry skin. Moisturizing also slows the skin aging process by combating wrinkles.
Nothing ages the skin faster than the sun, which is one reason why it's so important to use daily sun protection. The sun's UVA and UVB rays can also lead to the development of skin cancer like melanoma, basal and squamous cell carcinoma and may worsen existing conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.

Athlete's foot is a fungal infection on and around a person's toes that causes irritated, itchy skin patches. The fungus begins to form due to the sweat that occurs from wearing tight fitting shoes for a prolonged period of time. The red scaly looking rash causes discomfort and is similar in appearance to eczema.
It is important to practice proper hygiene by cleaning and changing damp socks, as well as to avoid walking barefoot through areas such as locker rooms where the fungus can spread. If your rash persists even after over-the-counter medication, schedule an appointment with us for more information on your treatment options.
Symptoms
Athletes foot is known for first appearing between the toes, however the fungal infection can quickly spread to a person's hands, nails, and groin if left untreated. Some symptoms to look out for include:
Feet and Hands:
- Red scaly rash
- Itchy skin
- Dryness
- Blisters
Nails:
- Yellow coloring
- Dryness
- Brittle surface
There are over-the-counter antifungal creams or prescription medications that can be applied to toes and foot as directed. Popular over-the-counter brands include clotrimazole and terbinafine.
Since Athletes Foot is contagious, always be sure to avoid sharing socks or shoes and contact your doctor immediately if symptoms appear. In addition, abstain from scratching infected itchy areas to prevent transferring the fungus to other parts of the body.

Have You Had A Yearly Skin Exam?
|
About Skin Exams
Full-body skin exams are an essential method of screening patients for benign or cancerous lesions that they may not have been able to see or recognize on their own.
By using a 5x magnifier and looking at all of your skin, our doctors can often find potentially life-threatening growths in a timely manner. From head to toe and back to front, we inspect the skin for any suspicious growths.
This quick and painless preventive measure is an invaluable tool in the early detection of skin cancer as well as many other dermatological conditions.
|
What to expect during your full-body skin exam
Before the skin exam, your doctor may ask if you have any concerns. Even if he or she doesn't ask, don't be shy. Point out any spots that worry you or changes you have noticed.
Once you have changed into an exam gown, your doctor will then do a head-to-toe skin exam, making note of any spots that need monitoring or closer examination. A Full-body exam typically includes an exam of the scalp, face, mouth, hands, feet, trunk and extremities, eyes and eyelids, ears, fingers, toes and toenails.
If there is a suspicious spot, the doctor may make a note of it and monitor the lesion over time. Often, the doctor will biopsy the lesion that day. Biopsies typically involve numbing the area around the spot with a local anesthetic, then shaving a small sample of the lesion. The sample is then sent to our dermatopathologist for analysis.
