Local Nonprofit Delivering Hundreds of Valentine's To Elderly in Care Homes
Audrey's Angels Is Recruiting Community Volunteers to Make Cards & Cookies for Isolated Elderly Living in Care Homes
Phoenix, AZ, 2/6/2019 -Audrey's Angels launched the "Angels for the Elderly" Valentine's Project in 2018 with overwhelming success and is continuing the creation of over 1,000 Valentine's Cards and messages again for the second year. Everyone and anyone can be cupid for the day and show some love and caring for lonely seniors.

There are 1200 licensed, small group eldercare homes in Maricopa County serving approximately 12,000 seniors that are no longer able to live independently due to age-related mental and physical disabilities. Through its live music enrichment programs, Audrey's Angels serves 175 of these small group homes with weekly hour long music programs for isolated seniors.

In 2018 Audrey's Angels enlisted dozens of community groups and volunteers ranging from school children, high school students, church groups, corporate groups, and individuals to share some Valentine's Day Love and make cards and sweet treats that were delivered to over 1,200 seniors. The seniors were overjoyed, and very surprised, to be remembered on Valentine's Day.

Audrey's Angels Executive Director, Linda Alderson, shares "This is a wonderful feel good project where everyone can be cupid for the day and bring joy and happiness to these lovely people. Most of the seniors we serve have no outside visitors on a weekly basis, and they lead very isolated, lonely lives. This is a simple way we can all let them know they are not forgotten."

Established in 2001, Audrey's Angels is the only nonprofit in Maricopa County that provides live music enrichment programs to seniors in small group homes and disabled adults in day centers. The elderly residents and disabled adults suffer physical and mental disabilities. The music programs provide therapeutic health and emotional benefits and often are the only outside interactions the senior residents receive on a weekly basis.

Participants in this year's events include corporate groups, Scout troops, church groups, high school key clubs, and individuals.
About Audrey's Angels
Audrey's Angels is a Phoenix based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2001 by Bob and Audrey Alderson to serve seniors in Maricopa County. The couple discovered the isolation and lack of outside connectivity for seniors living in small group care homes when searching for a care solution for their aging relative. What started with a handful of volunteers to provide live music to one home, has grown in 17 years to the organization reaching 175 care homes (approximately 1,750 seniors weekly) with 75 Music Angels providing live music enrichment programs.
