Dear Colleagues:

Of all the remarks I expected to hear as demolition began on the east end of Postle Hall, there was one comment I had not anticipated, but it seemed to be the standard among our students, staff, and faculty. That comment was, "There's no turning back now."

Even those who saw the demolition on our webcam voiced their remarks about the progress we are making, and they, too, were saying it: "There's no turning back now." It is both telling and revealing to hear this statement repeated by so many.

As I think about all that has happened in the past few years while we have prepared for our new building project, nothing has been as dramatic or publically evident as watching 30,000 square feet of Postle Hall being broken up into small pieces and hauled away to create the space for our new $95M facility. That event was definitive and conclusive, and it marks a point in time that we cannot go back to. It was also a moment that will evermore be a part of our college's history.

The notion that there is no turning back also conjures up feelings that we have made an irrevocable commitment to move forward. This, too, is something decisive and public, as we -- the state, the university, the college community and our thousands of alumni -- partner together to create something new and innovative that will help to enhance the care we provide for patients and advance the dental profession.  The physical evidence of such collective partnership will show others across Ohio and at our peer institutions that our combined efforts are producing something remarkable.

Yes, I agree with everyone who has said it. There is no turning back now because we are fully engaged in something very special; something that our college has not experienced in nearly half a century; and something that we can all be proud of. Forward we will go!
