A restorative yoga sequence typically involves only five or six poses, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest. Held for 5 minutes or more, restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends.

Yin
Have you added Yin yoga to your practice yet? Yin is an introspective practice that offers a chance to turn inward and nurture the calm, quiet center in all of us. It is a practice in stillness, patience, and non-reactivity.
Yin poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fascia and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Practicing 5-8 postures per class allows you to hold poses longer and cultivate an awareness of inner silence.
To practice yin is to relinquish control— a novel concept in our modern-day lives. On the surface, yin might appear uneventful. But if you are able to tune in, you will encounter some pretty fascinating events occurring in the layers beneath the skin. Yin can help restore range of motion and revitalize the tissues of the body. Or, as Catherine reminds us "our issues are in our tissues." Offering the opportunity to slow down, yin helps develop the mind-body connection, cultivate self gratitude, and balance.
Join Catherine Sunday evenings at 6:15 to add Yin to your practice. Your tissues will thank you, and you'll sleep like a baby!
