We're excited to once again participate in the
San Antonio Book Festival
(April 6, 2019), where we'll have 45-minute slots available for members interested in promoting, signing, and selling copies of their books.
Priority will be given to members with recently published books and members who have never previously promoted their books at our exhibitor table at a literary festival. But, we're almost always able to accommodate anyone who requests a slot, so fill out the form even if you've already promoted with us in the past!

This class demystifies academic writing and offers practical strategies for addressing common problems. Learn to navigate unfamiliar new genres, understand the audience's expectations, and explain ideas with clarity. We will analyze model texts from diverse disciplines, including grant proposals, abstracts, and journal articles, examining structure and style. The class will also give resources for grammar, citation, and writing in English as an additional language.

Memoir 101: Everything You Need to Know to (Finally) Start Your Memoir

The most haunting memoirs aren't just autobiographies. Instead, they pivot on a subject that mystifies and confounds the writer, about which they cannot quite make up their mind.
In this class, you'll begin to mine your life for material and work through a series of generative prompts designed to turn rich, messy fragments into surprising and powerful prose. We'll steal liberally from the sensory world of poetry, the narrative world of fiction, and the fact-driven world of journalism, even as we plumb the depths of interior life. Along the way, you'll learn how to build a strong narrative arc, write vivid scenes, and prioritize the details and images that make prose come alive.

How to Make Twitter a Writer's Best Friend

Every day, thousands of writers, agents, and editors take to Twitter to find new books, give writing advice, and take part in a dynamic literary community. This class will help writers learn the basics of Twitter, allow them to explore advanced options (such as lists and hashtags), learn proper etiquette when interacting with agents or editors, and show how to enter "pitch contests" that can change a writer's life. Whether you're new to the platform or a seasoned user, we'll learn how to turn Twitter into a writer's best friend.

Defamation and Invasion of Privacy for Memoirists and Fiction Writers

A lot of writers are worried about liability for defamation. Most of them don't need to be, but some of them do. This class will help writers learn how to navigate the legal landscape by covering the basics of libel and slander, as well as invasion of privacy, your subjects' right to control their own name and image, and other tricky legal claims. We'll also discuss how to minimize your risk of legal trouble -- and when you need to call a lawyer.
