Grafton Townhomes Back-to-School event!
Backpacks full of school supplies and books, face painting and a DJ were all part of this year's Back- to- School event held at our Grafton Townhomes community in Eastpointe. Representatives from Turning Point Macomb were available to talk about their program and future plans moving forward.
Thank you Rx for Reading Detroit!
We are thankful for their donation of books to our Little Libraries and community buildings! The non-profit literacy initiative is sponsored by the University of Detroit Mercy; and their mission is, "To expand access to high-quality children's books and support families in reading with their children."

This month I'd like to introduce you to Lisa Chapman, our new director of Strategic Initiatives.

Lisa joins us with more than 30 years of experience working locally to secure housing for people with intellectual disabilities and to end homelessness. We are pleased to have Lisa on board as she will work to advance our  mission and vision of leadership in innovative housing solutions that provide positive social impact. Her work will include developing partnerships that are the foundation for positive change for individuals and communities.

Before joining us, Lisa spent several years with the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) which is a national leader in supportive housing, focusing on person-centered growth, recovery and success that contributes to the health and well-being  of the entire community. While at CSH she worked on the following programs:
  • Vets@Home Technical Assistance Team working to end homelessness.
  • Michigan Hub

Additionally, she lead the team that researched and wrote the grant for the Frequent Users System Engagement (FUSE) program, using data matching to identify people who are frequent users of crisis systems. Once identified and securely housed, program participants have become healthier by being able to heal and undergo recovery in their own home.

Let's turn to Lisa now and give her a chance to answer a few questions.

How did you become involved with CHN?
Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work on various initiatives with CHN's executives and staff. After following CHN's progress, growth and working with staff in different capacities, when an opportunity to work directly for CHN came about, I was more than thrilled to join the team.

What drew you to our organization?
CHN has a great reputation out in the community. I appreciate the quality of people who work for CHN and am always impressed with how the innovative and creative staff serve the people of southeast Michigan.

What type of experience/education is needed to be
successful in your position?
In previous roles, I was involved in training and technical assistance programs that engaged and supported community partners. I created and led partnerships and process improvements that facilitated the development of housing and support opportunities. These experiences will help me as I help develop strategies for CHN to continue growing and serving people in our community.

What are your hopes for your new role?
I would like to add value and bring innovation and creativity to the housing services we offer for the people we serve. I strongly feel that if a person doesn't have housing, they don't have anything; without a stable foundation it is very difficult to move forward in life.

When I referenced CHN's Vision statement it encompassed my past experience and focused exactly on what I hope to do within my new role.

Anything else you'd like to share?
I love working with people; I get energized while building connections and relationships. Over the years, I've been able to create a large network and I'd like to be able to use those connections to help us partner with other agencies that provide additional services for the people we serve.

Parting words of wisdom?
My favorite quote is one of Anne Frank's, "In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart." Personally, I always assume the best about people.

I am grateful for Lisa's work, as well as the work of all CHN team members.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

President
