"Smart Social Media Usage"
Parent Chat with Lori Smith

Thursday, September 20th
8:15 a.m
(Parent Meeting)
9:15 a.m
(5th and 6th grade student meeting)

*Room Location TBD*

Lori W. Smith of Zimmerman, Kiser, & Sutcliffe, P.A., will be here to discuss how youth can use social media in a smart way. She will highlight successes of young teens who have used social media in school, entertainment, and youth related businesses. Ms. Smith will also highlight common social media mistakes.

In today's world of fast-paced and varied technological communication, children and adults are often surprised at the ramifications of hitting that "send" or "post" button without careful consideration. As a result of Ms. Smith's previous presentations, many adolescents seem to be rethinking their social media and communication choices.

We ask that at least one parent of our 5th and 6th grade students attend this timely and relevant chat. Mrs. Smith will also meet with grade 5 and 6 students following the parent session.

Our annual 6th grade Beach Bonding trip was a big success! From riding the waves to sand sculpting, crafting bracelets, watching Jaws, egg toss on the beach, sea turtle lesson/hatchlings and releasing and simply enjoying the company of friends and teachers - it was a magnificent memory maker for our Super Seniors!

Message from the Security Manager:

I wanted to take this time to thank all of our parents for making an effort to arrive on campus 5 to 10 minutes earlier for morning drop-off. We are working to make sure that we have adequate staff to fill all of the stations to reduce your wait time. Please continue to have your children, their bags and lunches ready to exit your vehicle as you arrive at the station. Being prepared to exit can help us speed up the process.

Local police even commented on how well our morning drop-off was going. They see
the problems created by other schools in the area and commended us for our efficiency. Two
days this week I counted the cars during our morning arrival. We were able to unload and move
an average of 354 cars through our drop-off in less than 45 minutes each morning. That’s
incredible and is a tribute to every one of our parents for making sure that your students are
ready to exit your cars as you arrive at a station.

Parents please do not arrive early for the afternoon dismissals. By arriving early it creates a host
of problems with the surrounding businesses and our other neighbors.

Please continue to be patient and KIND. If you have any questions please feel free to email me
at: jjohnson@parkmaitland.org or call (407) 647-3038 x248.

Thanks you in advance for your cooperation,

Jesse Johnson
We are so proud and excited to share that Tank C. (4 Green) is participating in a Baseball Tournament at ESPN this weekend with his travel team. Following this Tournament, the Championship will be televised on ESPN, and we certainly hope that Tank and his team get the opportunity to participate.

Good luck Tank!
Send your summer travel photos to the yearbook staff! NYC, Sarasota, Lake Tahoe, Rome, Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul... Wherever you made memories this summer, email one or two of your photos with a tag of who, what, when, and where the photo was taken to godoy-ramos@parkmaitland.org before September 30th.

We will be featuring these photos on a bulletin board in our front office. Some will be randomly selected for use in our 2018-2019 yearbook!
