Welcoming you and UU
Our year is getting started and we are picking up momentum. The Ingathering ritual was a sweet return and Sunday's Parent Group "Meet n' Greet" with Rev Marcus Hartleif brought deeper conversations about the needs of parents and families continuing to create meaningful experiences for them and their children. Connection and relationship to each other and this community kept coming up. Each of us wants that sense of belonging and meaning in our lives. Come, make the choice to step into the circle, join hands, and create the meaning that we crave.
Religious Exploration Curriculum this Year:
Wee Ones (Nursery - K1):
A homegrown
curriculum using the concept of seedlings to engage the wonder and curiosity of this age group and the
learning processes for later germination. This is the time to learn just who a UU is, what the seven principles mean in real life, and how they apply to each of us. For more follow this Link.
New Sprouts class (grades 2-3):
Check out this great UUA curriculum we are using with the 2-3 graders:
"Moral Tales",by Rev. Alice Anacheka-Nasemann and Elisa Davy Pearmain, p
rovides children with spiritual and ethical tools to make choices and take actions that reflect their Unitarian Universalist beliefs and values.
Creative Compassionates (grades 5-7): "Amazing Grace", by
Richard S. Kimball, is another UUA Tapestry of Faith curriculum to assist youth in exercising their moral decision-making skills,
Amazing Grace.
Young Religious Unitarian Universalists (YRUU-grades 8-12):
Themes of ethics and moral action are running through all our RE classes this year. Jef Melcher will lead the youth into and through creative discussions in a Socratic style while engaging the teens with current music, exploration of service to others, and examining various spiritual/religious practices. (Fair Trade chocolate sales will continue soon.)
OWL for K-1 +2:
We are looking at conducting an Our Whole Lives class for our younger elementary children either this Fall or just over the year in January. An information meeting will be held Oct. 7th.
RE Calendar
A work in process:
Link to several RE calendars. Some people prefer to print a hard copy and put it on the fridge. Pick the info you want and go for it. I am also now committed to taking this same information and putting it on several Google calendars. You can choose which ones you need to import for your family. I hope this makes it easier to plan and connect.

My general work hours: Mondays and Tuesdays are my days off. I have office hours at UUCM Wed and Thursday 10:30-2pm as well as Sunday 9AM-1pm. Friday and Saturday I work from home. Email, phone, and text are all fine forms of communication to use.

Autumn Auction - October 6 !!!

SAVE THE DATE for the Autumn Auction on Saturday, October 6, 2018, 5:30-9:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:00.
The success of this fundraiser is vital to UUCM meeting our financial obligations this year, and we need everyone to help!
There are four ways you can contribute.
- Donate an item or services to sell
- Volunteer your time before, during, or after the auction
- Invite your friends, family, and neighbours to attend
- Bid on items at the auction!
What goods and services can you or your friends donate? Here are some ideas.
- GOODS (children's toys and puzzles, custom notecards, theater or art gallery admission tickets)
- MEAL IN YOUR HOME (afternoon tea, dinner and book discussion)
- PARTY (charades and dessert, murder mystery dinner party)
- RECREATION OR TOUR (hike, weekend use of a vacation cabin, sailing on the Bay)
- SHARING TALENTS (sewing instructions, art instruction, various lessons, help with taxes, dog or cat sitting or walking)
- PERSONAL SERVICES (massage, manicure, computer tutoring)
- HELP AT HOME (landscape design or maintenance, lawn mowing, help cleaning out garage or closet)
- FOOD (cake or a catered barbecue dinner)
Please ask local businesses to donate an item or gift certificate!

Get out the Vote! Postcard Writing Party: Sunday Sept. 23 at Noon in Fireside room.
Please join Social Justice Committee folks to fill in postcards that urge citizens to vote this November.
This is non-partisan and these cards will be sent to the ACLU.
Linda Haumann will have the postcards and all supplies...Join in!

New Address for Order of Service Announcements
|

We will use

for people to send announcements in for the back page of the order of service. Whomever is doing work on any particular week's o/s will have full access to it. The
deadline is Wed 5pm.

|
We will have a free CPR training for the congregation on Sunday Oct. 7th following the service. This will be a short class introducing the new defibrillator that was donated to UUCM. This is basic information that can save a person's life.
The class will be led by Walter Littrell, who had his life saved by a defibrillator during a heart attack twenty three years ago. All guests are welcome along with members of the congregation to learn this simple life-saving technique. BE WELL!

Please save the dates of October 19 and November 16 for the "Remarkable People"
biography program. Facilitated by Nani Ranken, these Friday evenings consist of two UUCM members telling their life story and answering questions. It is spellbinding to hear people talk about the circumstances and choices in their life, and there is no better way to get to know other UUCM folks.
October 19 from 7-8:30pm in the Fireside Room. Amanda Morando and Earl Owen will be the speakers. Mark your calendars for the

FOR YOUNG UUs INTERESTED IN JUSTICE: Are you interested in knowing the reality of being a Palestinian in Gaza under Israeli occupation? UUJME is offering travel scholarships to young adult UUs aged 18-35 to help finance trips to
Israel-Palestine that will take place during the rest of 2018 through all of 2019. Please see the scholarship announcement below if you are interested. If you have questions, or to submit proposals, email

Scholarship applicants should propose a trip to the area and provide UUJME with details of expected expenses, dates of travel, specific destinations, planned activities, any planned collaborations with individuals or groups, and importantly, post-trip follow-up plans. UUPP, a
