Student-Centered Accountability Program (S-CAP)

S-CAP Featured in Denver Post!
The Student-Centered Accountability Program (S-CAP) was recently featured in an Opinion Editorial in the Denver Post. S-CAP is a work group of the 60 district Colorado Rural Education Collaborative facilitated by Generation Schools Network. For more on the CREC, please visit our  website. S-CAP  is designed to make school accountability more relevant to and actionable for local stakeholders while taking into account small "n" size.

The article is written by Lisa Yates, Superintendent of the Buena Vista School District and S-CAP founding member, and Colorado Education Initiative President, Rebecca Holmes. The article, "It's time to change Colorado's school accountability system," reviews the history of Colorado's accountability system and the need for the next step in its evolution. You can find the article  here.

We are currently looking for ten new districts to join S-CAP which is at the forefront of peer-driven innovation in the accountability space. If you are interested in learning more about S-CAP or becoming a member, please visit the S-CAP website and plan on attending one of our School Site Reviews (SSR) this coming year. Look for the SSR dates on the S-CAP website and consider attending and bringing teachers with you. Teachers have said that attending an SSR is some of the most valuable PD they have ever experienced.

Thanks to the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Nathan Yip Foundation for supporting this important work!

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

We will be kicking off Advocacy / SEL Training #3 for the SEL Rural Expansion Grant Districts soon, but we would like to share some self-care resources with all of our rural districts.

Resources to Help Teachers with Self-Care
The Association of American Educators has compiled a list of resources to help teachers with their physical, emotional and mental health! You can check out their entire list here. Below are some of our favorites:

Edutopia's list of 7 self-care strategies includes an important reminder that not all self-care routines look the same! There is no one way to take care of yourself, find routines that work well for YOU.

ReachOut.com walks you through the different areas of creating a self-care plan, and includes a printable PDF  so you can design a program that  works for you.

CO Rural Districts Achieve Lower Broadband Costs
Colorado Education Broadband Coalition (CEBC) was founded through the collaborative efforts of rural districts--joining many smaller districts to achieve pricing closer to the large urban districts. The CEBC achieved that and are close to being a 50GB broadband purchasing customer with member pricing at or better than urban peers. Founding members include Northeast and East Central BOCES along with Steamboat Springs School District. CEBC works closely with Colorado Department of Education, State of Colorado-OIT, Education SUPERHIGHWAY, Colorado BOCES Association, Rural Alliance, CASE-CALET and CASB as a Steering Committee.

There is no cost or obligation to join. Providing an LOA to the CEBC allows them to ask for a bid on your behalf. You can decide to use that bid or use your own!

Contact Arlene Salyards for more information or click  here to read testimonials from several BOCES and school districts across Colorado.

CREC Website Job Board

REMINDER: We advertise job openings on the CREC website and once a month, a job openings newsletter will go out to our members, giving your postings a wider audience! In addition to the job board, teachers can submit resumes for superintendents and administrators to review.
