PARISH NEWS

What's BCP?

In this Sunday's bulletin, you may note the abbreviation, BCP.  That stands for The Book of Common Prayer.  If you want to get more familiar with the BCP, you can reference the service in your prayer book - but you gotta turn those pages fast!

Celebration of Creation

and

Blessing of the Animals

We will have our annual Blessing of the Animals Sunday, September 30. Bring your well behaved pets to church that day. Dogs on leashes, cats in carriers. Dr. Sunday Cozzi, D.V.M. is with Lap of Love Animal Hospice and will be our guest preacher.  There is also a Pet Fair  including cat adoptions from Kitty Konnections, Dogma Grooming, Jae-Mars Puppy Class, Jae-Mars Handling Class, Critter Sitters and more.   Our own Beverly Hixon, who works with Kitty Konnections, will be receiving the St. Francis Award this year.

Pick up a "Moo card" with the invite "But I want to Come to Church too" in the foyer and invite your friends and family.

Hurricane Relief Raffle

Sunday, September 30

What do a dog in a comforter and the rescue of a victim of Hurricane Florence have to do with one another?

Well, Holy Comforter will be having a raffle for a comforter (get it?) at our Celebration of Creation and Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, September 30. All proceeds will go directly to the Diocese of East Carolina, home of some of the hardest hit disaster areas of NC, including Wilmington.

The Blessing of the Animals service will be in church starting at 10:30 am. (yes, you and your pets are welcome inside!). After worship stay for the raffle, refreshments for pets and people, and a Pet Fair including cat adoptions from Kitty Konnections.

Centering Prayer

Centering Prayer is a form of silent prayer preparing us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, and this method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship.

In the midst of an unstable, changing world, centering prayer is a rock on which to stand and a place to find peace in Jesus, while being transformed more and more into Jesus.

Class will start Tuesday, October 2nd, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Holy Comforter. All are welcomed. If you need a nursery, please contact the church office one week prior to Centering Prayer at 706-210-1133 and let us know of your needs. We meet on the Lower Level.
