Congratulations to McLean Home Care & Hospice!

McLean Home Care & Hospice celebrates a decade of recognition by Home Care Elite, being recognized once again this year as a Top 500 agency.

Home Care Elite is an annual recognition of the top performing Medicare-certified home health agencies in the United States.  This market-leading recognition program names the top 25% of home care providers based on key quality indicators.  The top 500 receive special honors through Home Care Elite.

McLean is among just 11 other agencies in the state, placing us in the top 10%.

The Home Care Elite ranking utilizes data from Home Health Compare and CMS cost reports to analyze five domains of performance:

  1. Quality of Care
  2. Quality Improvement and Consistency
  3. Patient Experience (based on CMS Satisfaction Surveys)
  4. Process Measure Implementation
  5. Financial Performance

This is McLean's 10th year to make the list, and it is the 5th time we have made the Top 500.

Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

On Thursday, September 27th McLean hosted a group of 99 volunteers for dinner in the Pfirman Dining Room, to celebrate our relationship and to thank them for their service to our community. This group had a wonderful evening sharing their stories with each other and toasting their success.

We are very fortunate to have such a large and talented group of volunteers who come to us from a number of surrounding towns including Avon, Simsbury, Canton and Granby.

It is so impressive to note the number of hours they serve:

Many are dedicated to specialized programs which includes:

  • 20 memory care volunteers who provided 992 hours this year
  • 34 volunteers in the McLean Auxiliary who served 1,626 hours
  • 40 Hospice volunteers who served 2,000 hours
  • 75 individuals who served more than 40,000 Meals on Wheels to people in the community ages 33-103
  • 3 very dedicated volunteers in Outpatient Therapy who provided a total of 352 hours
We are also grateful for another 112 volunteers who provided more than 2,000 hours in a variety of general services and activities.

For more information on the McLean volunteer program or to learn about ways to become involved, call Ann Pavano, Volunteer Coordinator 860-658-3941 or visit mcleancare.org/support-mclean/volunteer-opportunities.

Construction and Renovation Updates

We now have a new generator in place!  This upgrade took many months and included re-wiring our electrical systems to allow for the two generators we have in the Health Center building to run 100% of our electricity if we were to lose street power.  Thank you for your patience with the power outages we experienced together the past few months.

We also replaced our front doors to the building and started upgrading our phone system in October.

We are engaging an engineer to review the courtyard as the water drainage system is still a concern after we made modifications in September.

Our Chapel will soon re-open under "temporary" conditions as we are engaging an engineer to help us assess the repairs needed on the roof/garden terrace above. It will take time and resources to address it properly.  Thank you for your patience.

Community Cafe

The Community Cafe at McLean is celebrating it's one year anniversary!

This program is held once a month in the Health Center Koopman Room, for caregivers and their loved ones with early stage  Alzheimer's or Dementia. Based on the "Memory Cafe" concept originally developed in the Netherlands, it provides a safe environment for this group to come together for social
interaction, engagement and friendly support.

A mix of 16 people from within McLean and from the outside community
gathered during October's meeting and we so thrilled to see the
dynamics that  had evolved among this group and how welcoming they are
to newcomers each month. Please join us. The next Community Cafe will be held on:

Saturday, November 10th
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
