October Fun

October was full of activity. My friend, Ann Shepherdson, hosted a soap making and cider press party. We cooked the soap in a large iron pot outside, over a fire. It was a lot of fun, but we didn't much know what we were doing and our soap was marginally successful. I took my turn at stirring the kettle.

Later moved on to pressing the apples for cider. That was hugely more successful and a lot of fun. Ann and her brother are busy working the press.

Siamese apples!

It seems most years the apples are abundant in our area, and this year was no exception. I took the grandkids apple picking a couple of times, and they just loved it. All you need is an apple picker and a few good trees to get more apples than you know what to do with.
I made apple pie, apple sauce, apple juice, and dehydrated apples sprinkled with cinnamon. I even made a couple of quarts of apple cider vinegar. I thoroughly enjoyed doing it all, but I finally had to call it quits on any more apples. What a nice problem to have!
New Products

For those of you who prefer beef to pork, new items on our Shopping Cart are Beef Mild Breakfast Sausage and Beef Mild Italian Sausage.

I cooked some of the breakfast sausage this past weekend, once as a patty on a ciabatta roll, and then with scrambled eggs in a breakfast tortilla. Both were totally delicious.

I used the Italian sausage in spaghetti, and it was also terrific. Has just a little kick, but not too much. You can substitute it anywhere that calls for Italian sausage.

Also new are our Pork Medallions. They are packed in about 1 pound packages and are a wonderful alternative to a pork chop.

Speaking of pork chops, on our last processing we cut the rib and loin chops about 1 1/4 inches thick, to give you a really nice chop. Please let us know if you like them better, or prefer the thinner ones we first had.
Attention Hunters!

Need some fat for that wild game? We have a good supply of pork fat/suet on hand, at just $2.99 per pound. Works perfect for turning that lean ground meat into something truly yummy, and easy to cook.

In Closing

So my outside garden is pretty well done. In the greenhouse I still have broccoli, carrots, lettuce, kale, and tomatoes going. I was very disappointed with my potatoes and green beans this year and will be doing lots of research to learn how to better grow them next year.

Thank you all again for being such loyal customers and friends. We appreciate you so much. It has been wonderful and rewarding getting to know you better over the years. We hope our products bless you half as much as you bless us.

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Lois & Allan
