Greetings Daves Avenue Families,
This month our Asset Building Champions (ABC) Readers are focusing on the character trait of trustworthiness. The overarching theme is to provide students “UPstander Strategies” when making a report to tell a trusted adult about bullying behavior. Our goal is to help both students and adults on campus to practice specific responses and ways to support each other as UPstanders. Together, we can help create a caring and safe school environment.
What is the definition of bullying?
Bullying is when someone repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself.
What rules will be communicated with students?
Rule 1: We will not bully others.
Rule 2: We will try to help students who are bullied.
Rule 3: We will try to include students who are left out
Rule 4: If we know that someone is being bullied, we will tell a trusted adult at school and a trusted adult at home.
While the staff at Daves Avenue believes in reinforcing good character, on occasion there will be a need for consequences for engaging in bullying behaviors. These consequences will include the following:
1
st
offense: Reflection of behavior/action during recess or lunch
2
nd
offense: Referral to Principal and parent contact made
3
rd
offense: Community Service/Restorative Justice project assigned
4
th
offense: Student Suspension
Together, I know we can help to make Daves Avenue a bully-free zone where students of all ages feel confident and safe.
In education together,
Principal, Daves Avenue Elementary
