 Symbols of the United States Flag 
      Thirteen stripes represent the original thirteen colonies that declared independence from England; fifty stars symbolize the current 50 United States. White signifies purity and innocence, red signifies valor and bravery; and blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, and justice.
To a vexillologist a flag is the "shorthand" in the history of communication. Early flags were placed on a staff  high enough to be seen from afar, originally to identify armies, friend or foe. Signal flags were soon used to communicate directions to an army from afar. Throughout history, and even today, the flag is used by a
nation, a community,  an organization or business, to symbolize and identify central beliefs, goals, rules and regulations.
Flags are still used for signalling and also for decoration.

1. Puerto Rico's legislature resolved to request that the President and the U.S. Congress begin the process of admitting Puerto Rico to the Union as a state. On January 4, 2017, Puerto Rico's new representative to Congress pushed a bill that would ratify statehood by 2025.  
 
2.  On July 4, 1960 the first 50 star flag stamp was issued with a 4ยข value.
 
3. Japan's flag is white with red circle, Palau is blue with yellow circle, Bangladesh is green with red circle.
