Thursday, September 20th: Spirit Wear Day!
Since there is no school this Friday, so tomorrow (Thursday, September 20th) is a a Summit Spirit Wear Day! Students and employees may dress in typical Friday Spirit Wear attire (aka jeans and Summit Spirit Wear shirts). There is no charge to dress in Summit Spirit wear tomorrow.

Help Needed to Prepare for Community Open House!
As we work to get the campus ready for our October 3rd Community Open House & Ribbon Cutting, we need some help! If you are willing and able to help with any of the below tasks, please contact Amy Maas.
- Painting: Painting new walls in administrative offices
- Addressing Postcards: Thursday 9/20 afternoon or Friday 9/21 morning - 100s of postcards need to be hand addressed
- Weeding: See information below from the Girls Scouts as they lead a campus beautification project

A Message from The Summit Girl Scouts: Campus Beautification Day on Friday, Sept. 21st
The Summit Girl Scouts are launching a Campus Beautification effort just in time for our Summit's Community Open House coming up on
October 3rd
, and we need YOUR help!
From 9-11 a.m.
THIS Friday, the Girls Scouts will begin round one of the clean-up by attacking the front of the campus, and we need families to come armed with their gardening gloves, weeding tools, weed-wackers, shovels, shrub trimmers loppers, and wheelbarrows.
A second round of gardening will take place on
Sunday, September 30th from 2-4 p.m. and will focus on the rock beds on the back side of the campus.
We are seeking donations of gravel and cedar mulch to help keep weeds at bay and to provide a nice finishing touch to the beds in time for the Open House.
Come help demonstrate to the rest of Springfield how much our families care about the new school and show that we take tremendous pride in its success by being a part of this effort! Thank you!

Run for The Summit: Packet Pick-Up This Friday
The Run for The Summit is this Saturday, September 22nd. The Race begins at 9:00 a.m. at
the Missouri Institute of Natural Science (2327 W Farm Rd 190, Springfield MO 65810), so be sure you're there early to warm up.
Race Packet Pickup is Friday, September 21st, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Missouri Institute of Natural Science.
Race Day Activities:
- Play: Activities for kids will be available inside the museum.
- Breakfast: All racers are invited to stay and enjoy a complimentary pancake breakfast. All-you-can-eat pancakes are only $5 for attendees not running.
- Cup-Free Race: That's right...we are not providing cups at water stations! The Summit will be hosting a Cup-Free Race! Participants will have the option to receive a Hydra Pouch personal hydration device or bring their own water bottle. Cup-Free Racing means safer aid stations with fewer cups to slip on, more efficient and less crowded aid stations, and less waste. Learn more about Cup-Free Racing.

Middle School Takes on Model United Nations
On Wednesday afternoons, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes come together with the science, language arts, and social studies teachers for Model United Nations. Long a dream of Mr. Gronniger, and something he greatly loved in past schools, Model United Nations seeks to teach students about diplomacy, world events, public speaking, research, communication, negotiation, debate, compromise, geography, and world history.
Summit students are passionate about this time together each week, and they have each claimed a nation from across the globe to research for their first semester. Students have chosen countries from Thailand to the Philippines to Israel to Sweden to Myanmar. As part of their research to create their "Country Profile" students are learning about levels of development, border nations, civil wars, religious strife, and other factors that affect the operation of a nation's government.

High School & Beginners Buddies: The Summit Difference
High school students have the wonderful opportunity of interacting with buddies in the Beginners class every Thursday of this school year. Mrs. Kimmons, Beginners teacher, plans activities that blend the two ages together. So far this year, students enjoyed stations in the Beginners classroom, filled out "All About Me" posters in the history classroom, and painted on the sidewalks with chalk. Summit high schoolers get such joy from this time, and it's apparent their entire day is made brighter because of time interacting with younger st
udents.

Save the Date for The Summit Gala: Friday, October 26th
The Summit's 14th Annual Gala will be held at the Darr Agricultural Center (same great location as last year).
This year's Annual Auction & Gala is a 1990s style party complete with games, music, appetizers, raffles, and silent and live auctions. Guests can show off their fly moves while gettin' jiggy with it, enjoy free wine and beer, or try their luck at the gaming tables. This party is going be all that and a bag of chips!
