Bridget became the first staff hire of
Clear Lake Township Land Conservancy in 2015, and she has been busy working with their active board and volunteers since then. The mission of CLTLC is to preserve and protect the natural environment of Clear Lake Township through three service areas: environmental education programs, natural area preservation, and annual testing for water quality. “CLTLC has existed for 27 years, so we’ve had success and challenges,” explained Bridget. “It’s a humbling experience to work with so many people who really show up for these projects.” With the addition of a full time staff member, CLTLC has been able to expand its activities, outreach, and board engagement.

RECAP FROM DECEMBER BOARD TRAINING
|
On December 11, SCCF hosted a nonprofit training called "Building a Strong Board." Some of the biggest take-aways for our 21 attendees were that board members are responsible for the financial resources of a nonprofit, which includes carefully reading financial statements as well as participating in the fundraising process. Boards should review their performance each year and try to remain in the realm of strategic decision making, but don't forget to bring fun and mission moments into your meetings to keep volunteers engaged!

FEBRUARY NONPROFIT TRAINING ANNOUNCED

Our next nonprofit training will take place on February 12, 2019 from 3:00-4:30 pm. Dr. Kelly Trusty will share best practices and tips for grant proposal writing. While a location is yet to be announced, please

Nonprofits in Steuben County are fortunate to have support for projects beyond what SCCF can offer. An example of that is the Dekko Foundation. It’s invested in Steuben County’s youth philanthropy group, F.I.S.T., among making many other investments in the county. You may be thinking, why invest in youth philanthropy? Well, because seeing young people contribute to their community is inspiring. But it also aligns with the Dekko Foundation’s desire to partner with organizations that are building skills, knowledge, and character in young people and preparing them for a life of self-sufficiency and economic freedom. Could your organization be one of those partners?
In addition to program grants, the Dekko Foundation offers Nonprofit Toolbelt Grants and resources for self-evaluation. Check out their resources for building

SCCF's youth philanthropy group, FIST (Forever Improving Steuben County Together), will offer two grant cycles in January through the SCCF website. Steuben County school personnel can apply for a grant between
January 4 - April 1. Nonprofits can apply for FIST Community Grants between
January 15 - May 1.
SCCF also has community funds with grant dollars available on an ongoing basis for projects in communities throughout Steuben County. Applications available on our
website.

NOBLE COUNTY NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS
|
Consider registering for one of Noble County's Nonprofit Leadership Workshops, coordinated by the Community Foundation of Noble County, the United Way of Noble County, and the Dekko Foundation. These workshops will cover marketing, fundraising, human resources, and measuring what matters. The cost to attend a training is $25, or $90 for the full series. Registration for each event is available on the UWNC website at
uwnoble.org.
