In the digital age, social media has proven to be a valuable tool for districts and individual schools to build their brands and cement their reputations among families and the community at large.

Especially with pushes for school choice on the rise, platforms like Twitter and Facebook can make the case to parents by providing a window into a school's approach to learning and its overall philosophy. And sharing particularly innovative goings-on - or even specific needs for certain programs or lessons to happen - can also help forge partnerships within the community and connect classrooms to subject matter experts who might be willing to serve as a special guest, either in person or via Skype.

Have you heard of faxploit? In a ground breaking new discovery, dubbed 'Faxploit', Check Point researchers illustrate how organizations of all sizes, as well as consumers, could be exposed to infiltration by hackers looking to exploit vulnerabilities in fax machine communication protocols.

Furthermore, and perhaps more worryingly, the only information required to do this is the organization's fax number - something which is often publicly available on any employee's business card or company website.

Sure, there will be new apps, devices, and gadgets in schools across the country this year. But deeper forces are also at work: Dozens of states are in the midst of adding an entirely new academic discipline, computer science. Sensing schools' safety fears and the possibility of a new market, security companies are making a strong push to get into K-12.

Online threats such as the spread of misinformation and cyberattacks are spreading, presenting new challenges for educators and administrators alike. And it doesn't look like the craze of Fortnite, an online shooter game, is going away anytime soon.
