VPMarketingMessage from the VP of Marketing

Kristin Walker
Greetings SACSA members -

How did it become February so soon? Hopefully you had a wonderful beginning to your semester filled with ways to engage stakeholders, especially students. I also hope that for those of you able to join us in Myrtle Beach, you are implementing ideas generated from the conference. Finally, with stores beyond filled with hearts and tokens of love, I hope 2019 will bring opportunities for you to invest in yourself and your dimensions of well-being.

Each month you'll hear from different members of the Executive Council (EC) who will share what's happening in their areas to help move SACSA forward. As the Vice President of Marketing, I'd like to introduce you to this area's outstanding group of volunteers, and what we have been working on since the conference to improve your member experience and prepare for the 2019 conference in North Carolina.

Marketing and Outreach - We closed 2018 with expressing gratitude for Jackie Clark, Erin Layton, and Danielle Vitale for their SACSA service. For 2019, we are actually looking for someone to chair this committee. If you're interested, please contact Kristin ([email protected]). Meghan Woodward oversees our SACSAlerts will continue to be the main form of communication to members. We appreciate her transitioning into the role and ensuring each edition is easy navigate. Thank you to everyone who submitting content! Opportunities to engage on all social media platforms exist and will continue to be robust and creative thanks to Dion Harry. Make sure you are following us on the platforms where we you, so you don't miss out on upcoming opportunities to engage and inspiration quotes and articles.

Membership - We appreciated the service of Kathy Meyer who helped bring membership recognition name badge ribbons to the 2018 conference and for laying the groundwork for membership features in the SACSAlert. The new chair of this committee, Christina Wan will feature more members in the coming year. Check out the profile this month! She is also exploring ways to recruit and retain members potentially using state reps. If you're interested in helping with this initiative and getting involved, contact Christina ([email protected]).

Website - Continuing to be chaired by Josh McKee, content is always being updated to reflect the latest and greatest content. Thanks to Dorian McCoy and his students, there is a new area to search graduate programs on the website. Coming soon will be a way to search for all available volunteer opportunities at SACSA. Since it's a new calendar year, we encourage you to keep your profiles updated by logging into the website. We don't want you to miss any association communication.

This month the EC will have its mid-year meeting at the conference site in Raleigh, NC. We hope you'll join us at the 2019 annual conference. The EC sends its best to the SACSA Family, as we continue to support students and make a difference.

On behalf of the Marketing Team,
Kristin Walker, Ph.D.
Vice President of Marketing

Xochil Bucholz

SACSA Member since 2015
As an undergraduate student, Xochil Buchholz was a Resident Assistant at Texas A&M University- Commerce, a role that led her to Student Affairs after completing a B.A .in Liberal Studies. Now, she is the Dual Enrollment Coordinator in the Department of New Student Programs at the University of West Georgia, after completing her M.Ed. in Professional Counseling in College Student Affairs.

Like many of us, she was encouraged to join SACSA by a mentor, Dr. Matt Varga. In her role, Xochil works with high school students who gain college credit by taking college courses. Four years ago, she was encouraged by Dr. Matt Varga to join SACSA as a graduate student. Since then, her SACSA story has included volunteering with the MAC & SACSA's newest excursion in Jacksonville, Florida, volunteering at registration and check-in tables for volunteers and attendees at SACSA conferences, and working with the Communities of Engagement Initiative. Within the COEs, she specifically worked with the Latinx Collegas COE.

One of her most rewarding SACSA experiences was attending New Professional's Institute (NPI), a joint initiative between SACSA & NASPA Region III, at UNC-Charlotte. That year, she made sustained connections with other NPI attendees (there's still an active group chat!). At the Myrtle Beach conference, Xochil presented twice, on the topics of diversity & inclusion and advice for new professionals. Her favorite SACSA locations were Greenville and Chattanooga! She enjoys SACSA's keynote speakers, specifically noting that the opening speakers are always fantastic.

Additionally, she looks forward to the UWG reunions at each conference! "I feel like every time I leave [the SACSA annual conference] my cup is always filled so I can pour out", Xochil reflects. Her advice for other SACSA attendees? " It always rains -so bring an umbrella, wear flats and stay in the conference hotel! Rain or shine it's SACSA time! ".
