Updates from Jefferson City Public Schools
Foundation Gift to Benefit
Miller Performing Arts Center
We are thrilled to announce a major JCPS Foundation gift to the  Etta & Joseph Miller Performing Arts Center from the David R. Goller Trust. This endowment will benefit the  #JCMO community and all of our students through future improvements at the Miller Center. Along with the gift, the auditorium will now be known as the David R. Goller Auditorium.

How appropriate that this exciting announcement could be shared today, during the annual JCHS Fine Arts Recruitment Day, when our high school students showcase their many talents to 5th grade music students from across the district.

This generous gift will enhance the fine arts experiences for JCPS students of all ages for years to come!!  #JCStrongerTogether

We are sensitive to the demands associated with making a change to the school day and the challenges it places upon families. With this in mind, we will try our best to make decisions as early as possible and we appreciate your cooperation in the safety and well being of our students and staff.

Stay Informed!

Decision Making Process:
  • When inclement weather is in the forecast, administrators will begin tracking the storm via weather reports.
  • Administrators will maintain close contact with county and city road crews.
  • If the storm is coming in the early morning hours, our Director of Transportation and his colleagues at First Student Transportation (our contracted bus company) will begin driving key roads. Typically these roads will be on the west and southwest end of the county/city, as well as several areas in Callaway County. It is not unusual for our people to be out on those roads at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning.
  • Depending on what time of day the storm looks to hit our area, administrators will consult with other school districts in the line of the storm to gauge the intensity of the storm and to get their opinions on how to best deal with the situation.
  • Ultimately, the Director of Transportation will contact the Superintendent and make his recommendation. The Superintendent will then make his decision.
  • When that decision is made, the JCPS Communications Department will begin “putting the word out” via the channels noted above.

#JCReads Week: March 4-8th
Jefferson City Public Schools will be celebrating #JCReads Week March 4th - 8th to coincide with the State of Missouri's annual School Read-In Day (March 8th).

Our district's #1 goal is to get 100% of our students reading at or above grade level, and this week will provide an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of reading, both inside and outside of the classroom.

We will be celebrating in school buildings across the district throughout #JCReads week, and we invite you to celebrate with us by reading in your homes and place of work.

Mayor Carrie Tergin will be making a proclamation declaring a citywide "Drop Everything and Read" time at 9:30am on Friday, March 8th.

We hope you will join us!!

Kids Against Hunger
Food Packing Event

On Monday, LCMS Team Target (8th Grade Students) participated in a "Kids Against Hunger" food packing event. The entire thing was spearheaded by Matt Verslues, with the help our of students/team teachers. It included fundraising during 1st semester to buy all of the packing materials and then culminated in this week's packing event.

In total, these students packed nearly 3,000 meals to send to hungry children all over the world! We love this big effort of kindness, well surpassing and reaching further than just #JCStrong ! #BlazingtheJaybirdTrail

Upcoming JCPS Events & Community Activities
Current and former students, families and staff members are invited to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of our JCPS middle schools - Lewis and Clark and Thomas Jefferson - that opened to students in 1993! We would also love to invite community members who participated in and were instrumental in the success of the 1990 campaign to build LCMS and TJMS.

We look forward to sharing more details as we get closer to these events.
