FOCUS Real Estate Hiring
Rumor has it that FOCUS Real Estate at 34 South Street will soon be looking for a full-time marketing professional. FOCUS is a dynamic, community-FOCUSED friend to the neighborhood and a great place to work!

First Thursday
Sponsorship Opportunities
Our goal for 2019 is to rebrand First Thursday with a Scavenger Hunt via the StriveOn app. Each First Thursday will have a scavenger hunt that highlights six different businesses in the district, as well as our usual Screen on the Green. We hope this redirects the focus of this event to our business district and highlights late Thursday evening hours for shopping.

The costs for banners, posters, advertising, licensing and permitting, equipment, and more can bring the cost of the First Thursday season to over $10,000. Please consider supporting this collaboration in our community. You can contact the Executive Director to learn more or download our sponsorship form here.

Create an ArtWeek Event for 2019
Deadline is Friday, Feb 22
ArtWeek will be Friday, April 26 to Sunday, May 5. The award-winning festival happens statewide, so they're looking for event hosts from all corners of the Commonwealth including rural towns, suburban hubs, and urban centers! The arts are defined broadly to include culinary, design, architecture, spoken word, film, fashion, and other less traditional artistic forms of expression in addition to dance, theatre, music and visual arts - so think creatively! They also have seen many successful collaborations with unusual partners, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box. To be considered for ArtWeek, your event must:

  • Take place during the ten days of ArtWeek (Friday, April 26 – Sunday, May 5)
  • Charge no more than $50 per person (many are free!)
  • Include a special “ArtWeek twist” that is participatory, interactive, or offer behind-the-scenes access to the arts

ArtWeek events should be unique, memorable and inspired experiences as long as they are a taste of the arts, culture, and/or creativity unlike others that are regularly offered during other times of the year.

  • Flagship February At Canary Square
February 21, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Canary Square
In the day and age of a feverish juicy milkshake IPA consumer culture, constant brewer experimentation and collaborations we have potentially dangerously forgotten so many breweries and beers which began us on an amazing journey to where we are today.
Writer Stephen Beaumont (Food & Wine Magazine) has launched a #FlagshipFebruary campaign to draw attention to products we must fight to preserve and admire. He calls upon us craft beer drinkers, purveyors and beer makers to focus our attentions on Flagship Beers.
We are happy to participate for the entire month of February pouring classic flagship brands on our rotating 30 taps and culminating with a SWAG giveaway and complimentary 16oz shaker style pint glass from your favorite Flagship Beer on Thursday February 21st from 6-9pm in Jamaica Plain.
“Flagship beers are down in sales across the board because drinkers get bored,” he began in a pair of tweets last week. “In the spirit of alliteration, how about we make next month Flagship February!?! The focus would be on drinking faves from the early years, not necessarily exclusively, but frequently. The brands would get a boost and drinkers would be reminded of what got them here.” Beaumont writes.
We love that idea sir. Let's show some love for these beers which did us right for so long.
More details will be added and the list will be coming together soon.
Cheers!!

  • Tres Gatos Book Club: Milkman
February 24, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Tres Gatos
On Feburary 24th at 330pm, join us at Tres Gatos as we dissect, discuss, debate and drink our way through Anna Burn's MILKMAN. All are welcome at the book club, and the book is currently on sale in the Tres Gatos bookstore.
"In an unnamed city, middle sister stands out for the wrong reasons. She reads while walking, for one. And she has been taking French night classes downtown. So when a local paramilitary known as the milkman begins pursuing her, she suddenly becomes “interesting,” the last thing she ever wanted to be. Despite middle sister’s attempts to avoid him―and to keep her mother from finding out about her maybe-boyfriend―rumors spread and the threat of violence lingers. Milkman is a story of the way inaction can have enormous repercussions, in a time when the wrong flag, wrong religion, or even a sunset can be subversive. Told with ferocious energy and sly, wicked humor, Milkman establishes Anna Burns as one of the most consequential voices of our day."

March 3, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
JP Centre Yoga
Nada Yoga, which means “Union through Sound”, combines yoga and meditation with the healing soundscape of live music.
Guided by Carolyn Little, Nada Yoga is the culmination of over a decade of collaboration with many brilliant musicians, most of whom are graduates of the prestigious Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory.
On the 1st Sunday of each month, different musicians are featured to accompany Carolyn's class which consists of a slow, grounding restorative flow with breathwork, meditation, and chanting.
This unique experience is a co-creation; an exchange of energy and expression that will leave the practitioner in a state of pure bliss.
