An academic bilingual community fostering global citizenship
Dear Park Spanish Immersion School Families,

I hope this finds you well, in this winter wonderland! Due to the inclement weather, we are cancelling tonight's PTO-sponsored Family, Fun, and Fitness Night. We will have additional activities with Sr. Watkins and Sra. Huss at this year's PTO-sponsored spring picnic.

We look forward to connecting with families next week at Parent/Teacher Conferences, as we give updates and plan together for the remainder of the school year! At conferences we will have a survey about reading practices, and we want your feedback.  This year, our Steering Committee, comprised of teachers and parents, has been investigating how to support families with reading at home. We value and need your perspective to help us better understand our current reality. While in the building, please take a few minutes before or after your child's conference(s) to answer these questions about reading at home in Spanish (K-5) and English (2-5). We would appreciate if you would fill out one for each child; your input will help us as we help our students learn.

Each child, family and staff member enriches our community, and we celebrate our individual and collective past, present, and future. At PSI, we are currently celebrating Black History Month , and we are doing a variety of activities throughout the building. Please ask your child to tell you more, and please join me in celebrating the richness of our community.

Construction work on our new building is progressing well! Check out a few pictures of our new space "in transition" I am so excited for the possibilities for our community!

Thank you for your partnership on behalf of our 516 amazing children. Have a great week, be safe, and keep reading.

Sincerely,

Corey Maslowski

Morning Drop-Off - Kiss & Ride Reminders
For your student's safety, please do NOT leave your child at the Kiss & Ride drop-off when no PSI staff are present.

The Kiss & Ride drop-off closes promptly at 8:20 am, and we open the front lot to cars because buses have typically left and students can enter through door #1 and the PSI office. After 8:20 am, we do not have supervision or staff for students at the Kiss and Ride drop-off. As a reminder, students must to be inside the classroom, ready to learn by 8:25 am, or they are considered tardy.
Cartonera Project:
We Need Your Empty (family size) Cereal Boxes!
The Cartonera Project was a huge success last year, and we are excited about gearing up for our Cartonera Project again this year (in June), where every student publishes a book! We're already collecting, and would love if you'd send in your empty, large (family size) cereal boxes. Click HERE for more information about the Cartonera Project.

The Media Center Needs Your Help!
Did you know that the media center has already circulated 25,000 books this year, so it is no surprise that they need ongoing help re-shelving books. Please consider stopping by the media center any time between 8:15am and 3pm (stop by the office and sign in). No experience needed! Regular help or drop in help (even 15 minutes) is very appreciated!

Head Lice - Information from the Minnesota Department of Health
Schools should encourage parents to check their children regularly for lice at home. Below are some common questions about head lice:
  • What are head lice? The head louse is an insect that can infest people.
  • Who can get head lice? Anyone can get head lice. Most people don't know they are infested until they see the nits (eggs) or lice.
  • How does head lice occur? Head lice have no wings, do not fly or jump, but they can crawl or run through hair quickly. Most commonly head lice are spread by direct head-to-head contact.
  • What are the signs of a head lice infestation? Look closely for nits (eggs) along the hairline at the back of the head and neck and behind the ears.
  • How do you treat head lice? The recommended treatment includes using either an over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription medicated (lice-Killing) product.
