Nonprofit Board Leadership Program

We are excited to announce our second Nonprofit Board Leadership program in 2019. This training is ideal for those interested in joining a Board, and those currently serving on Boards. It will be led by The Lee Institute, an area nonprofit with significant expertise in developing and supporting nonprofit leadership. 

The program will consist of three independent sessions:

Finding Your Fit
January 9, 2019 11:30 a.m -1:00 p.m. 
This brown bag lunch session will help you identify your passions and talents, explore the potential "right" organization for you, and "ace" the Board recruitment process.

Upping Your Board Leadership
February 13, 2019 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. 
This program will include training and interactive learning around leadership and generative thinking and is for any member interested in developing and honing her leadership skills. The program will be led by Cyndee Patterson, President of The Lee Institute.

Finding Your Match 
February 26, 2019 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Join us for "speed networking" where you will have the opportunity to mix with local nonprofits that are looking to build Board capacity.

Last year's Nonprofit Board Leadership Program was an excellent opportunity to learn more about my passion for service. The two most important takeaways for me were learning Board structure as well as the advice to seek a Board that was in line with my personal missions.
Insights from the WCGN Conference

The Women's Collective Grantmaking Network (WCGN) held it 7th conference last month in Philadelphia, hosted by Impact100 Philadelphia, and entitled We The Women. Women's Impact Fund representatives Arrington Mixon, Lisa Miller, Ellen Rankin, Dianne Bailey and Jessica Klasinski attended the conference.

We are looking for women who are interested in connecting our members with the amazing leaders and critical issues in our community. Join the team who put together the highly successful Social Hour for Social Issues panel discussion on Social Capital in October, and help us develop programming for the Spring and Fall of 2019.

Grants Team Update

The Grants Team Leads held a Discovery Findings meeting October 18th. They shared the results as well as how their research helped them determine how they will evaluate their LOI's. On November 15th, each committee narrowed down their Final Four and 1 alternate. They will begin site visits in January.

  • Christy Bostic has been selected as an honoree for the 2018 Charlotte ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award. She was honored at an event on Tuesday, November 13th as an emerging woman leader, who demonstrates excellence in her profession, giving back to the community in meaningful ways and supporting women leaders. Congratulations to Christy for being a role model and outstanding leader in the Charlotte community. 
  • Congratulations to the newest Mecklenburg County Commissioner--WIF member Susan Harden! Susan, a professor at UNC Charlotte,
    won the seat for District 5 in her first -ever run for public office. That makes two elected officials among our membership. Julie Eiselt serves on the Charlotte City Council and as Mayor Pro Tem.
  • Congratulations to Jonell Logan on her new position as the Executive Director for the League of Creative Interventionists. LOCI is a San-Francisco based, non-profit that supports artists and neighbors, working together to re-imagine their neighborhoods and our cities.
