New Waste Processing Facility to Begin Accepting Material Next Month

HAMPDEN, MAINE - The Municipal Review Committee and Fiberight's Coastal Resources of Maine are pleased to announce a March start date for the commissioning of the advanced recycling and solid waste processing facility in Hampden.

Fiberight President Craig Stuart-Paul said, "We are thrilled that Coastal is on track to accept single stream recyclables next month and reach commercial operations this summer. Having a detailed and technical Commissioning Plan is a significant step in reaching our full commercial operations."

The Commissioning Plan regarding the completion, testing and achievement of commercial operations for the facility was prepared by Coastal to demonstrate the timeline for processing single-stream recyclables and municipal solid waste.

"The MRC is pleased that the Commissioning Plan is consistent with our understanding that recycling and municipal solid waste will start by April and ramp up through May and June," said MRC Board of Directors President Chip Reeves. "On behalf of the MRC Board of Directors and 115 Member communities, we thank Coastal and its partners for being laser focused on bringing this facility to commercial operations."

The MRC's technical advisor has reviewed the confidential document which contains propriety information and notes that it provides stages of activity leading up to commercial operation including the utilities turnover and pre-commissioning phase; the commission of the MRF; the commission of the wet-end; and the ramp up to full operation.

A copy of the public memo is available on the MRC's website here.
