This Sunday at Christ Church
Teddy Bear Sunday

Please bring a new (or gently used) teddy bear to church this Sunday, February 10. Teddy bears will be blessed at both services - 8:00AM, 9:30AM - after which, they will be donated to the Department of Children and Family Services. Your donated teddy bears will serve as gifts for abused or displaced children.

If you do not have a teddy bear to donate you can buy one at Christ Church!  Bears are between $5-25. Thank you for your support.

After the 9:30 service, please come to the Cloister for a special Valentine-themed coffee hour with activities, crafts and a special service project for Grace House! It's all about love! This takes the place of regular Sunday School classes today.

Silence the Violence - Film Screening & Discussion
Sunday, Feb. 10 - 4:15PM
A portion of our Prayers of the People each Sunday is the jarring part where we list the names of those shot and killed in Chicago each week. Join us for a firsthand look into the realities of gun violence in Chicago. Participants from the Family Matters' Boys-to-Men Program-young men who have been directly affected by gun violence- have made a short film called Silence the Violence. They speak to their reality and offer insights on ways to promote peace. We will watch the film in the sanctuary on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 4:15. It will be followed by a panel discussion with some of the participants in Boys-to-Men.

This event will be followed by the monthly Taizé service at 5:30PM. Childcare is provided for Taizé.

Youth Art Workshop Series: Feb. 24 PUPPET-MAKING!
On February 24, we will use a variety of materials to create PUPPETS, inspired by PATIENCE.  Our collage workshop is part of a series in which we are exploring a variety of materials to make art inspired by Galatians 5:22-23. The workshop will culminate in an art gallery display on Sunday, May 12. Please let Megan know if you or your child would like to participate and/or be a curator.

When we do construction and printmaking, there are a few household items we could use YOUR help collecting! Please bring the following to the Youth Room (empty):
  • SMALL- and medium-sized cardboard BOXES (i.e., from toothpaste, make-up, cereal - and especially, SHOE boxes)
  • Paper towel and toilet paper rolls
  • Styrofoam trays (what meat and some vegetables are sold on) Example link.
All middle and high school youth are invited to participate. Friends and parents are always welcome! We meet the following Sunday mornings from 10:45-11:30AM in the Youth Room: February 24, March 3 and 10, April 14 and 28, and May 5.
Youth Hosting: Pancake Supper - Get Involved!
This year on March 5 we celebrate what has been called Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday, or PANCAKE Tuesday. It is a day to indulge in sweets and all kinds of fun before we enter into the reflective season of Lent the following day (Ash Wednesday). We are putting together a team of youth to host this celebratory event. If you can flip a pancake, grill bacon, or lead a game, we need YOU! Email [email protected] if you want to join the team - and the fun!

Acolytes are lay worship leaders. They carry crosses, candles, and other items in procession. Becoming an acolyte is a great way for young people to participate in the service, see worship from a new perspective, and feel ownership and belonging in the community. Anyone that is in 5th grade and up can acolyte!
