Annual Advent Project - collecting through Tuesday

Our annual Advent Project has begun. Each year we choose local organizations to support during the season of Advent by collecting items they need. This is part of our on-going mission to help the dear neighborhood by assessing and responding to the needs of our community.

This year we are supporting Friendly Manor in Oakland. This drop-in center for homeless women was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph and offers a safe and supportive environment where women experiencing homelessness can eat, do laundry, and shower.

Each class will be collecting different items for Friendly Manor:

Freshmen - Sports bras and deodorant
Sophomores - socks and twin bed sheets
Juniors - pillowcases and pillows
Seniors - washcloths or hand towels and pads and tampons

All items can be delivered in the Inner Court by Tuesday, December 17. Thanks for your support of the Advent Project and contact  Natalie Terry  if you have any questions.

Athletics Update

Basketball -  After their three wins on Monday, the Cougars were back at it on Thursday (12/5). The Freshmen team kicked it off with a win over Dougherty Valley, 41-21. Followed by JV with a win over St. Mary's, 49-44. The games continued into the weekend with the Freshman team falling to Cal High and the JV team losing a close one to Bishop-O'Dowd on Friday (12/6). Saturday proved to be a great day for the JV team with a tremendous win over powerhouse program Miramonte. The Frosh team played a tough game against a strong James Logan team, but came up just short. While the JV and Frosh teams were crushing it on the courts the Varsity girls were training hard getting ready to play in the Miramonte Classic this weekend. The tournament started with a nail bitter against St. Vincents. Although they came out with a loss, the girls fought with heart and courage throughout the game.

Soccer -  Freshmen and JV Soccer were in full swing this week with Freshmen kicking it off with a tie (1-1) against Cal High on Thursday (12/5). JV brought home a 2-0 win against Castro Valley HS. Friday (12/6) was a terrific day for Cougar Soccer with both the Freshmen and JV teams beating Heritage HS. Saturday proved to be a tough day for both teams with the Freshmen and JV teams suffering their first losses of the season to Monte Vista HS.

The season of Advent is the season of waiting. During Advent, we notice that each day is growing shorter as we approach the winter solstice. We are experiencing the darkest days of the year.

Once the solstice occurs, Earth begins its journey back toward the sun. Even as we face the barren, cold days of winter, little by little, the days become longer.

Advent calls us to be patient in the darkness. Until light returns.
