ADAA 2019 Board Applications

The Board of Directorsthe governing body of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) is a volunteer group of members who are clinicians, researchers, and others with a commitment to advancing treatment, research, training, and education about anxiety disorders and depression. The ADAA Board of Directors provides governance and strategic direction to the overall organization.  Board members reflect the highest standards of conduct and contribute their skills and resources to advance the mission of ADAA. 
 
The ADAA Board has two open seats and will be selecting two candidates to join the Board as of April 15, 2019.  Per ADAA's Board bylaws, the nominating committee is comprised of three current Board members and two ADAA members who are not serving on the Board.
 
The ideal candidate is someone who considers ADAA his or her professional home; embraces the concept of a multidisciplinary organization involving clinicians and researchers from different disciplines; actively recruits new members; promotes, presents, and attends the annual conference; and thinks strategically about the organization's growth and development. Preference will be given to candidates who are either  masters level, clinicians, or experts in depression.

Board Member Duties and Responsibilities

Board members serve a three-year term that may be renewed in accordance with ADAA's board bylaws (available upon request).
 
The Board meets in person twice a year**, holds monthly conference calls, and conducts business throughout the year.
 
Board members sign a code of ethics and agree to serve the organization in a manner that  maintains confidence and trust in the integrity, honesty, objectivity, and credibility of ADAA. All Board members are expected to contribute to discussions, participate on monthly conference calls, attend both in-person annual Board meetings, participate at the annual Conference, and be accountable for projects and programs they oversee. The expectation is also that each Board member contributes a gift during ADAA's end of year giving campaign.
 
In addition, Board members agree to the following:
  • Contribute constructively to discussions and decision-making processes throughout the year.
  • Manage the fiscal and business affairs of ADAA, placing the organization as the priority.
  • Grow membership by actively promoting ADAA to colleagues, peers, trainees, and students.
  • Establish and communicate organizational priorities and activities that help achieve the ADAA mission.
  • Engage in planning that advances the organization's public education and outreach initiatives. 
  • Promote ADAA as the resource for training and dissemination of research in anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Oversee and constructively evaluate activities of committees, task forces, and special interest groups.
  • Solicit, nominate, and approve recommendations for award recipients.
  • Enhance and support fundraising initiatives.
  • Nurture succession of leaders by engaging new volunteers in ADAA activities.
Nomination Guidelines
  • Nominees must be ADAA professional members in good standing.
  • Nominees must demonstrate their leadership roles (and active participation) in  ADAA activities, annual conferences, and committees/special interest groups.
  • Nominees should be passionate advocates for ADAA, able to articulate in their personal statement the contributions they will make toward meeting the mission and vision of ADAA.
  • Nominees should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and engage in appropriate debate and discussion when needed.
  • Nominees should be visionary and strategic thinkers and demonstrate the ability to innovate.
  • Nominees must be able to carry out responsibilities and participate in monthly conference calls, conduct business via e-mail, and attend the two in-person Board meetings a year. 
  • Average time commitment is approximately three hours every month, with an increased time expectation during the annual Conference.

Nominees/and or Nominators must complete the board application form and attach all required documents. The application form, CV and cover letter must be emailed to [email protected] before midnight, March 5, 2019.  Any applications received after this date will not be considered.

** ADAA reimburses for the board member's economy travel and hotel costs to attend the annual October in-person board meeting (unless the Board member chooses to absorb the costs themselves). ADAA does not reimburse for any expenses to attend the in-person board meeting during the annual Conference. All board members are required to pay the full Conference registration fee and hotel expenses.
