Our parks and preserves can provide the perfect backdrop for your bridal, graduation, prom or family photos! To ensure that all visitors have an enjoyable experience, registration is now required for professional, client-based photo shoots. 



Important  Updates

As of Jan. 1, 2019, there is 
no charge for 
Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space public, group and outreach programs. 

Fees will still apply for Shelters, Camps, Historic Yates Mill tours and Overnight Lodge reservations.

As of Jan. 1, 2019, 
we no longer accept 
cash on site at any Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space location. 

Payments can be made 
on-site or in advance with a credit or debit card.

Go Ape Treetop Adventure at Blue Jay will be open on weekends beginning March 2 but you can book your adventure now!

Nature Peekers:
Busy Beavers
Tuesday, February 5
10:30 - 11 a.m.
(for kids ages 18 mos. to 3 years and their grown-up)
Munch and crunch! Here come the beavers in 
Busy Beavers by Lydia Dabcovich. Investigate the 
beaver's world through interesting textures like 
beaver fur,  gnawed bark and more.
Fee: Free!

Alphabet Soup
Wednesday, February 13
1 - 2 p.m.
(for kids ages 3-5 and their grown-up)
 
Come explore the letters of nature as we 
practice the alphabet and go on a 
nature alphabet hunt!

Family Wildlife Series:
Winter Wander
Saturday, February 9 
(this Saturday!)
10- 11 a.m.

Join us for a winter walk and plant ID session. 
Make a winter plant collage while learning 
about critters that depend on those plants for their 
winter habitat needs. Not stroller friendly--baby 
backpacks please!
All ages welcome, activities and information 
are most appropriate for ages 5 and up.
Fee: Free!

Family Wildlife Series:
Great Backyard Bird Count
Counting is for the Birds
Monday, February 18
2 - 3 p.m.
 
Join Blue Jay staff to hear a bird story (or two), try a fun bird activity (or three) and count how many different kinds of birds we can see from Blue Jay's front porch as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count on Monday morning. Older kids will hike "further afield" to expand our bird count numbers while the peewees and their grown-ups make bird treats to take home. This family program for parents and children of all ages is FREE but pre-registration is required.

Serious Skills for Adults:
Who's Got Game?
Saturday, February 9, 1- 4 p.m.
(this Saturday!)

Get out of the house and have fun on a winter afternoon testing out some unique nature-themed board and 
card games.  We'll have games of various levels and intricacies, so you can play as long or as little as you like. 
As we play we'll throw in some fascinating nature facts 
about the games and maybe even make some new board game friends along the way!   If you're attending, do you 
have a game that fits this theme? Email us at [email protected] so we can add it to our 
potential game list!  This particular Serious Skills for Adults session is for fun and games only-no credit towards 
NC EE Certification is available.  
Ages 16 and up are welcome.
Fee:  Free but pre-registration is required.
