Women veterans have served side-by-side with their male counterparts, and yet still are not receiving the same level of post-military support and recognition.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, women veterans are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population, with many of these women being single parents. Women veterans, just like their male counterparts, do not become homeless overnight. Homelessness in most cases is due to a series of circumstances that include unemployment, underemployment, depression, hopelessness, financial illiteracy, and other transition uncertainties that Veterans are just not mentally prepared for.
To reverse this cycle of misfortune, Women Veterans Interactive created the Jocks and Pearls initiative to awaken America’s awareness of the plight of women veterans who have served our great Nation.
All proceeds from the Jocks & Pearls Gala benefit Operation Safety Net and the Women Veterans Transition Space.
