In anticipation of our Nieuw Amsterdam Soirée, bestselling author Russell Shorto will discuss the gripping tale of the origins of the Dutch colony of New Netherland.

The New York Times called Shorto’s work  “astonishing … a book that will permanently alter the way we regard our collective past,”  and selected it as one of the paper’s Notable Books. The Wall Street Journal described it as “a masterpiece of storytelling and first-rate intellectual history.”

THE CURIOUS WORLD OF SEAWEED with JOSIE ISELIN
September 27th at 6pm
Author and artist Josie Iselin shows how algae are the supreme eco-engineers of life: they oxygenate the waters, create habitat for countless other organisms, and form the base of a food chain that keeps our planet unique in the
universe as we know it.

Iselin holds a BA in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard and an MFA from San Francisco State University. She presents historical botanical illustrations alongside her own signature, Marimekko-like portraits of each aquatic specimen, deftly revealing the organic poetry
and art inherent in our natural world.

WE'RE GETTING THERE!

Thanks to our supporters - from Jay descendants to sailing history and garden buffs - we're closing in on raising 50% of a $75,000 Challenge Grant from the Gerry Charitable Trust.

These funds will be used to rebuild the Gothic Revival profile of the 1849 AJ Davis Pavilion that once overlooked the gardens and Long Island Sound. Read more about the Challenge Grant HERE
Consider making a gift to a specific capital project or educational program.
We are so very grateful for all you do!
