DRAGON TALES

Dear St. George Families,
Many of our greatest gifts are things we take most for granted. Think about your health, your family, your job. What would it be like to lose any of those?
Last week we celebrated Catholic Schools Week and it was a very busy but rewarding week. Sometimes we take for granted the ability to send our kids to a great Catholic school and we forget that the thing that most makes Catholic Schools successful is commitment and sacrifice.
Commitment and sacrifice on the part of religious Sisters years ago made the possibility of Catholic schools a reality. These sisters worked for almost nothing. Parent's who couldn't pay tuition brought the Sisters food - chickens, vegetables etc. - so they could live. Many parents would also make great sacrifices to send their children to a Catholic school. They might get a part-time job to help pay tuition.
Why was this done? So that their children could receive a solid faith-based education. Combining solid academics with spiritual formation the child would receive an education focused on not only shaping the intellect but also the heart.
The same foundation remains true today at St. George School as we build upon the base we have received. As parents our greatest gift to our children is their education; an education focused on the formation of the "whole child" - the intellectual, the social, the emotional, and the spiritual. We work hard at St. George to offer children the best opportunities in each of these areas.
We have a solid foundation upon which to build. But in order to continue to be successful it requires support of every family. Christian role models by making your families spiritual growth a priority.

2019-2020 Before/After Care Enrollment
Re-enrollment for currently enrolled families, including new students who have a sibling already in the program, will begin on Monday, February 18. Enrollment for new students and other interested families will open on Monday, February 25 on a first come first serve basis. No forms will be accepted early. The last day of enrollment for all families is Friday, March 1. Enrollment forms and information will be posted on the school web site and RenWeb on the afternoon of February 15. Teacher Appreciation Week
Mark your calendars to honor our Faculty and staff during this week!
Monday, February 18th - Friday, February 22nd
Students are invited to participate each day!
Monday - Give your teacher a quarter. (The coke machine in the lounge is 50 cents.)
Tuesday - Bring a small surprise to the Art, Computer, Spanish, Guidance, Music, Library, P.E., or Religion teacher your child has that day.
Wednesday - Give your teacher a snack for fruit.
Thursday - Give your teacher a card, note or prayer.
Friday - Give your teacher a school supply.

Door Prized are Needed for the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon on February 21st
The Home and School Special Events Committee is accepting donations for door prizes to be given to our teachers at the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, February 21st. Each year the board is humbled by your generosity.
If you would like to donate an item (no amount is too big or too small), please send to the office with your name on it or you can contact Melissa Terrell, 225.485.9868. All individuals and/or businesses will be recognized at the luncheon and in Dragon Tales.

Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition Winners
The Knights of Columbus, Mother of Mercy Council 4030 held its annual Free Throw Competition Friday, January 25. The Knights would like to commend all participants for their efforts and sportsmanship. Competitions were held in each age bracket from 9 year old thru 14 year old with each winner advancing to a District competition where they faced off with winners from other area councils. The winners from Mother of Mercy Council 4030:
9 Y.O. champion - Christopher Olivier
10 Y.O. co-champions - Bryce Brown & Britt Galloway
11 Y.O. champion - Ian Trahan
12 Y.O. champion - Hayden Bessonet
13 Y.O champion - Sam Ponson

The District level competition was held Saturday, February 2 @ St. Patrick and two of Council 4030's winners scored well enough to win and will advance to the Diocesan level competition:

REGARDING SNACKS BROUGHT TO SCHOOL
VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ!
- All food items brought to school for birthdays (PreK and K only), gold slip parties, holiday parties, retreats, etc. must be store bought and must contain a label. The items must be nut free, including but not limited to peanuts and tree nuts (almonds, brazil nuts, cashews, chestnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, pinenuts and walnuts).
- If a product label says the food item contains, may contain, is produced in a facility that contains or is manufactured on equipment that processes peanuts and or tree nuts, this item is unacceptable.
- Home prepared food items are not allowed.
- Please read labels and plan accordingly when choosing snacks to bring to school.
