Information On GROUP F
Group F: Combustible Dusts
Coal / Carbon Black / Charcoal / Coke Dusts
Combustible Carbonaceous Dusts
Coal-fired power plants provide about 32 percent of consumed electricity in the United States. (Shown left) is the Castle Gate Plant near Helper, Utah
Pulverized Coal Dust Burner
For use in thermal power plants, coal is ground into dust using a device called a powdered coal mill. The resulting product, called powdered coal or pulverized coal, is then generally used in a fossil fuel power plant for electricity generation. Pulverized coal is a significant dust explosion hazard, as large quantities are suspended in air for transfer from the mill to the power plant.
These locations contain Dusts in Group F such as
atmospheres containing carbon black, coal or coke dust.
