Defining the Future of Tourism Skills

Join Tourism HR Canada for an engaging, interactive session to discuss critical labour issues. Existing labour shortages are expected to worsen over the coming years and could be exacerbated if skills mismatches and employment gaps are not addressed. This session is a component of a much larger project that will see the development of a comprehensive FUTURE SKILLS FRAMEWORK that looks to redress the skills and labour mismatches and provide interactive resources that will assist job seekers, employers, educators and governments to better understand the skills and competencies employers are looking for and to assist job seekers in identifying the skills they have and how they relate to specific employment opportunities.

If you are interested in joining the session on February 27, 2019 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am, please email Chris McDonald at cmcdonald@tourismhr.ca.

A Collaborative Approach to User-Generated Content
Thursday, Feb. 28, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

As social media platforms evolve, BC tourism organizations need to adapt their social media strategies. Join us for a practical session on what's new with platforms like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, and what these changes mean for tourism marketers at DMOs, attractions and tour operators. Hear from Tourism Vancouver Island on how they partner with local stakeholders and Destination BC to leverage images shared on social media to collectively reach and engage visitors.

In this session we will cover:
  • What's new with the social media platforms most popular for tourism organizations
  • How to source more user-generated content to use across your marketing initiatives
  • How tourism organizations can participate in Destination BC's new user-generated content partner network

Speakers:

Dan Holowack

Dan is the CoFounder and CEO of CrowdRiff. He works closely with industry leaders in travel, tourism and marketing to uncover the most cutting edge challenges and solutions for sourcing and scaling visual content to engage audiences. By day, he loves big data, user-generated content, and marketing automation. By night (and on weekends!) you can catch him windsurfing, traveling with his better half, or jamming on his bass guitar.

Hannah Smith, Tourism Vancouver Island

Hannah  is a digital enthusiast and wordsmith, skills she puts to use as a staffer at Tourism Vancouver Island. You'll find her voice behind the region's social media accounts, sharing her love for the Island. She's also held gigs as a translator, a search engine optimization specialist, and even a ghost tour guide. Hannah splits her time between the coastal beauty of Nanaimo and the big sky country of the Peace Region in Northern BC. Ask her about her favourite places to eat, what her dog Walt is up to in her home office, and what Netflix series she's currently binging.
