This Week at BJBE
February 19, 2019
A Note from Cantor Rayna Green
Inclusion is a Jewish value. Judaism cares about how we treat each other, and how we treat each other defines us and our community. This month is Jewish Disabilities Awareness and Inclusion Month. We celebrate the many abilities in our community and continue to raise awareness of our obligation as Jews to be inclusive of all people. Inclusion means belonging, participating, contributing, and having the ability to make choices about one's own Jewish life.

BJBE's Inclusion Committee has been busy educating, inspiring and doing this holy work. Thanks to our Inclusion committee, this past Shabbat, we launched our brand-new Accessibility Center located at the entrance of the main sanctuary.

In our Accessibility Center you will find resources for individuals with specific auditory, visual, and tactile needs. Items such as hearing devices, reading glasses, large print prayer books, noise-cancelling heads phones, weighted lap pads, oral and general sensory tools, and so cial stories are now available to borrow during the service. We ask that you return them to the bin labeled "used," after the service so that we can continue to offer these resources each week.

This is simply the next step in ensuring that every person feels welcome at BJBE.

Thank you to our Inclusion committee headed by Jennifer Gendel. Members: Diana Slatopolsky, Dan and Audrey Tepperman, Carole Klein-Alexander, Mira Neuman, Sharon and Jenny Balfour, Marisa Dunn, Stacey Ban, Maureen Wener, Abby Tzinberg and Andrea Napchan.

Did you know?
Last year, BJBE was honored to be named an Exemplary Synagogue for Inclusion as part of the Union for Reform Judaism. We celebrate this honor, and at the same time, we recognize that there is still much work to do.

כי ביתי בית תפילה יקרא לכל העמים
Ki beiti, beit t'fillah yikarei l'chol ha'amim
For my house shall be a house of prayer for all people.
~Isaiah 56

We look forward to celebrating the Bat Mitzvah of Sydnee Jarol at the morning service this Saturday.  Mazel tov to her and her family!

Mazel Tov to Emma Rosenberg-Rappin who was chosen as one of JUF's 18 under 18! Emma is an amazing leader in our BJBE community, serving on the youth group board, working in our madrichim program, and assisting Cantor Green with the junior choir! They also traveled with us this past summer on the Teen Mission to Kolin and Israel. We're so proud of Emma!
