BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Since 1976, the month of February has been officially recognized as Black History Month. It's a time of recognition, celebration, and "to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history."

Please join LMC in celebrating Black History Month throughout February. Activities include: a Library photo display, a Food Drive to benefit the LMC Food Bank, a free screening of the Black Panther, and more!

If you're looking to add a class or a few units to your Spring 2018 schedule, there are still short term classes available.

  • February 15 - Last day to request Pass/No Pass (P/NP) on courses marked SC
  • February 16 - 19 - HOLIDAYS: Lincoln/Washington Birthdays - College Closed
  • February 28 - Last day to submit Early Summer 2017 Graduation Application
March
  • March 1 - Last day to apply for Spring 2018 Graduation
  • March 1 - First day to submit early Fall 2018 Graduation Application
  • March 26 - 31 - Spring Break - No classes - Campus Open

ADMISSIONS & RECORDS NEWS

Apply for Spring 2018 Graduation by March 1!
If you will complete your degree or certificate in Spring 2018, the deadline to apply is March 1. Please be sure to see your counselor to verify that you are ready to graduate. You can also use Student Planning to check your academic progress. If you miss the March 1 deadline, your application will be processed for summer.  Graduation Application

Fall 2017 Grads
Students who applied and completed academic requirements in Fall 2017 will receive their diplomas soon and will be invited to attend the Spring 2018 Commencement Ceremony

For Summer 2018 Graduation
If you plan to complete your academic requirements in Summer 2018, you can submit an Early Graduation Application through February 28. Apply one semester early and get an early registration date for Summer and get into the classes you need to graduate on time. 

For Fall 2018 Graduation
If you are completing your academic requirements in Fall 2018, you can submit an   Early Graduation Application  beginning March 1. Apply early to get an earlier Fall registration date and get the classes you need to graduate.  Students completing academic requirements in the fall will not participate in the Spring 2018 Commencement Ceremony.

Commencement Ceremony 
This year's commencement ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 25 at the football stadium. Students who have completed academic requirements during Summer 2017, Fall 2017, or are considered "approved" or "pending" for Spring 2018 semesters will be invited to attend the ceremony. More information will be available soon on the  Commencement Ceremony web page.

Veterans Resource Banner

Veterans Resource Center
Approved veterans may utilize the Veterans Resource Center, room CC3-800, located next to the Bookstore. Students can relax or work on homework there. Counseling and wellness services are also available in the center.

Spring semester hours:
Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

2018 LMC CÉSAR CHÁVEZ RECOGNITION AWARDS

Makes a Difference
Los Medanos Colleges invites nominations for three annual recognition awards that honor those whose record of voluntary/community service in East Contra Costa County reflects the great tradition of service exemplified by labor leader and human rights activist, Mr. César Chávez:

The awards are:
  • César Chávez Award for Exemplary Community Service
  • East County Educator Award
  • Chávez Spirit Award

3on3 Intramural basketball
Have Fun! Get Involved!
The Student Life Office has put together some great events for you to start off the new semester. Take a look at what they have planned to keep you fit, informed, and to make new friends on campus!

3 on 3 Basketball
Are you interested in playing some friendly basketball? If so, join us for our annual 3 on 3 Intramural Basketball event. Registration packets are available in the Office of Student Life until February 23. The games begin on February 27 and are every Tuesday until March 20, in the LMC Gymnasium, from 3:30  - 5:00 p.m.
 
LMC Club Day
The college offers a variety of clubs that provide recreation, entertainment, and opportunities to get involved with the community and other students. If you are interested in learning about the 30+ clubs we have here on campus, we will be in the Indoor Quad on Tuesday, March 6 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Join us for Club Day to find out how to get involved!

TRANSFER & CAREER EVENTS

Pathways to Private Schools
Are you interested in transferring to a private school? If so, Brandman University, Palo Alto University, and Pacific Oaks College will be on campus Wednesday, February 28, from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m., in Room 412 of the Student Services Center. Learn more about private college transfer options, including financial aid, scholarships, and the application process.

Discover Davis - Day Trip
Join us on Friday, February 23, from 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. for a free bus trip to UC Davis to learn about programs, services, and to see the campus. Be sure to register online to save your seat on the bus!
University of Nevada Reno Tour 
Sign-up for a free bus trip to UNR, on Friday, March 9, to get a feel for campus life and to learn about the programs and services they have to offer. Be sure to register online to save your seat! The bus will leave around 5:00 a.m. and return around 7:00 p.m.. It will be a long but an amazing day!

FINANCIAL AID AWARENESS DAY

Learn About Money for College! Win Prizes!
Join us in the Outdoor Quad on Tuesday, February 27 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. to learn how to apply for college grant money. While you're there, stop by to enter your name for a chance to win a prize!!
 
For a chance to win, you must:
  1. Submit a 2018-19 FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov or a CA Dream Act application at https://dream.csac.ca.gov/.
  2. Print out a confirmation page, and write your name, student ID#, and phone number on it.
  3. Drop it off at the financial aid table. Prize winning entries will be drawn at approximately 1:30 p.m. You don't need to be present when names are drawn to win.
If  you need help completing a FAFSA/Dream Act application, lab hours will be offered on Financial Aid Awareness Day, from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.,  in the Assessment Center, Room SS3-314.

Are you interested in making a difference at LMC, and having a voice in important decisions that affect you and other students? Do you want to gain experience and leadership skills? If you answered yes, consider becoming a Student Senator by joining the LMC Associated Students (LMCAS)!

Canned Food Drive to Support the LMC Food Bank 
In the names of  two great civil right's leaders,  Martin Luther King, Jr. and Cesar Chavez, LMC's Office of Student Life and the Inter Club Council (ICC) are asking for donations to support the LMC Food Pantry. From February 5 through February 23, students can drop off canned goods or non-perishable items at the Office of Student Life or the LMC Food Pantry, Room CC3-826.

BRENTWOOD CENTER NEWS  

Student Services Office
The Brentwood Center provides information and assistance to students throughout the semester during the following hours: 
  • Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • Fridays, 8:00 am - 2:00 p.m.
Transfer Advising - CSU East Bay

Tutoring Services & Library Support
The Brentwood Center's Center for Academic Support, also known as the Tutoring Center, is now open in Room 13! Get a jump on your studies by taking advantage of tutoring and Library services, all available in Room 13. We offer drop-in peer tutoring in many subject areas, one-on-one reading and writing support by English faculty, and assistance with your research needs by our Librarian, Roseanne Erwin. Take a look at the schedule of services posted outside the door to Room 13, or check us out on the Brentwood Center website. To schedule a one-on-one appointment for reading and writing services, just stop by the front office or call (925) 513-1625. Counseling Services
The Brentwood Center offers individual counseling in a variety of specialty areas including Veterans, Wellness, MESA, Student Retention Support Services (SRSS), EOPS, Calworks, and DSPS, as well as general academic counseling.
