Checking In As Winter Break Approaches

Hey parents,

Before we all get swallowed up by the hustle and bustle of the season, the PTO wants to take a time out to check your pulse.

First topic: Lunch

It's been awhile since we've surveyed parents on our Kiddos lunch program -- last winter, in fact. Now that we have a few months of this school year under our belts, we'd like to hear from you about how the lunch program is, or isn't, working for you and your "kiddo." Please click on the link below and take the super short survey.

Second topic: Communications

We've tried various ways of making sure all parents who care to hear from the PTO are getting our biweekly Item newsletters and timely e-mail blasts. We've also tried to keep our newly revamped Website updated and make sure you know it's there as a resource. If you still feel out of the loop or need another e-mail address added to our list, please reach out:   [email protected]

Third topic: Fundraising

This year, we've cut back on the fundraising the PTO does. For example, the lunch program used to be a fundraiser, and now it is not. We also lowered the cost of Pizza Fun Lunch (a fundraiser). However, we did that hoping our existing fundraisers we rely on would remain steady. The recent Grand Receipts Challenge -- our simplest fundraiser because it only requires parents to hand in grocery receipts from The Grand to earn us money back -- was not as successful as last year. Please, please, pretty please -- continue to collect and submit your Grand receipts (the box is located in the school lobby by Rosa's desk). 2018 receipts will only be good until the last day before Winter Break. After break, we'll begin collecting 2019 receipts. Please support this necessary fundraiser so we can continue supporting the kids and teachers with great PTO programming.

This is a great time of year with Winter Sing approaching and the long break in sight! Please reach out anytime if you'd like to get more involved in our PTO events and programs.

thanks,

Kendal Reis (HW PTO president)

News and Notes
The Grand
Congratulations to the third graders in Ellis for winning the Grand Receipt Challenge and the McFlurry Party!

*This great school fundraiser is still going on! Bring in your Grand holiday shopping receipts before winter break!

Reusable Plates, Cups, and Silverware
Thanks to a donation by the PTO and grant funds, every classroom at Hubbard Woods School will have its own Party Pack - a set of reusable plates, cups, and silverware - just in time for holiday and other celebrations. These sets are manufactured by Preserve and may be washed at home and returned to school or rinsed in the classroom sinks.

Thank you to the teachers, room parents, and parent volunteers for bypassing paper goods and honoring our school's commitment to keeping green! Think of how much paper and plastic we're diverting from landfill!
"Self Edit" on Directory Spot
If you need to update your entry on Directory Spot, there is now a simple way you can do that yourself.

Please click here to see the step by step instructions. If you have any questions related to the directory, please contact Amy Kay.
On-line 2018-19 Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten pre-registration for 2019-2020 is open on the District website. https://winnetka36.org/
Children who will be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2019, are eligible to enroll. This shift to an online process minimizes the time needed to pre-register and respects the busy schedules of families.

Parents are encouraged to pre-register as this will help with teacher and space planning for next year. Please share this information with new families you meet around Hubbard Woods who will be entering D36 schools for the first time next year.

If  you have any questions, please contact the District Office at  847-446-9400.
Snow Day Credit From Kiddos Lunch

On Monday, November 26th, we had a snow day. Ordinarily Kiddos Lunch would try to reschedule this day; however, since it occurred so early in the school year, we have instead provided a credit for any lunches you had ordered on your Kiddos account. If you had a lunch ordered, your Kiddos account has been credited and the credit will be auto applied during the checkout process, the next time you place a lunch order.  If you would like to SEE THE CREDIT ON YOUR ACCOUNT, Please log into your account, and click STATEMENTS. You will need to click any "plus signs" on the left to display the information in that category ( Orders Dates, Orders, etc.)
If you need assistance, please contact  [email protected]
Volunteers Needed
Please Volunteer to Help With Recycling and Composting!
Be a part of educating our future generations to think before you toss. Wear gloves, stand at the three bins and answer kids' questions on which bin to toss in (we have visual aids to help you) -- it's that easy. We need volunteers to continue this program and the best part is, our planet will thank you!

Contact Elizabeth Leonard at:  [email protected] if you are interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity.
Kudos
Thank you to Abby Burtelow and her team of helpers (Laura Weidaw, Amy Kay and Catie Jacobsen) for managing the November Grand Receipts Challenge! Thank you to Jill Beckstedt for sprucing up the planters outside of the school for the holiday season! Thank you to Amy Kay for continuing to manage Directory Spot, and arranging the self-edit option. Thank you to Amy Chudgar for coordinating IDEA Lab volunteers.
