Does your school have responsible lighting practices?
Little attention is paid to how effective or efficient our outdoor lighting practices are and even less to the impact on our local plants and wildlife and night sky views. Get an introduction to responsible lighting practices and how it can benefit us and the planet.

Classroom Connection: Discuss light pollution, conduct an activity to measure light pollution. Go further and evaluate your school's outdoor lighting for improvement. Learn more about light pollution from the International Dark Sky Association.

Here's a fun seasonal project to do with milk jugs! You can build an 'arctic' igloo from empty milk jugs. Then check out our links above for ideas to celebrate International Polar Bear Day.

One Earth Film Fest - most showings free!
March 1st-10th
Take in a film during the Midwest's premier environmental film fest. The festival invites you to go "All In' for the planet. We've compiled a short list of the powerful, solution-oriented films showing in DuPage County. Discover community action partners who can help you plug into projects, large and small.

Teens and young adults are encouraged to attend. A great opportunity for an eco-club field trip or extra credit for science classes!

Everyone's favorite whimsical rhyming author would have turned 114 years old this year. Celebrate by reading his personal favorite story and environmental fable that 'speaks for the trees' - The Lorax.

Spend your spring break with Living Lands & Waters, one of SCARCE's favorite environmental action organizations. Be a part of the team that won CNN's 2013 Hero of the Year award for their hard work removing almost 10 million pounds of debris from U.S. waterways.
