Happy New Year!!!!!
As 2018 has come to an end and 2019 has now come upon us I hope that you all have had the opportunity to spend some quality time with your family and friends. As we all know in our world of pharmacy this is truly our busiest time of the year. So getting that time away from work can be a challenge. I work in community pharmacy and we have been busy since September!! I know that those that work in hospital see some of their highest admission rates during this time. Just hang in there as it will eventually ease up in a couple of months. This is the one time that it seems that our patients need or desire to ask us all kinds of questions.
For my Christmas I was able to spend time with my husband and son. My pharmacy is only closed one day of the year which is Christmas Day and this year I didn't have to work on Christmas Eve so we were able to go to my parents for Christmas in Louisville, KY. This was awesome as I had not been able to see my family for several months. I got to enjoy my Mom's cooking and then of course take a nap after dinner. We opened up gifts and as usual our family had a blast getting our son all kinds of toys. He was so excited and couldn't wait to open the next present for himself. He wanted to pass the gifts to everyone so that he could read all the labels to know which present belonged to whom. There is nothing like a 7 year old taking the lead in passing out gifts and giving instructions on who would go next.
Also during this time of the year, I reflect over what I am thankful for, who I have lost over the past year, who I have not spoken with or kept in contact with, what I was able to accomplish, what I need or want to focus on in the coming year and I ask God to continue to order my steps.
Over the past weeks, I have started to write down some of my personal goals. As I had started making my list one of the things that became very apparent is that I need to take some time to focus on me. I know as women we often are taking care of others and unfortunately sometimes end up neglecting to take care of ourselves. So, I have decided that one of my goals would be to look at opportunities for personal growth and I wanted to share some of these things with my Sisters. These are going to be called, "Things to Share with Ewe". These may be books, health and wellness goals or even words of wisdom or encouragement. So my first thing to share with ewe is that I have started reading the book,
Lean In (Women, Work, and the Will to Lead) by Sheryl Sandberg. It is a book that provides practical steps women can take to combine professional achievement with personal fulfillment and it shares how men can benefit by supporting women in the workplace and at home.

ASHP Midyear Meeting 2018
The ASHP Midyear meeting was held in Anaheim, California (December 2 - 6, 2018). Lambda Kappa Sigma was an exhibitor at the meeting. Grand President Chris Grass and Grand Secretary Stephanie Mrozek, along with Joan Rogala and Erin Rogala from Alpha Resources, were on hand to meet sisters at our booth in the exhibit hall. We handed out gifts, had a photo booth, and asked sisters to sign-in and provide us with their non-school email address.

Condolences for our beloved Sisters
Nancy E. (Stevens) Keen
passed October 17, 2018.
GREENFIELD - Nancy E. (Stevens) Keen, age 77, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. She was born on August 3, 1941 in Liberty, IN. She graduated from high school and obtained her bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Butler University. Nancy married Fred O. Keen on October 16, 1965 in Liberty, IN.
She was a pharmacist for over 50 years. She started her career working at Hook Drugs as a pharmacist and later worked at CVS in Knightstown and various Walmart locations. Nancy and her husband, Fred co-owned Linde Cleaners in Greenfield. She was an avid Pacers fan.
Nancy is survived by her son, Jon Keen of Greenfield; and close friends, Nancy Leonard and Toni & Mark Dudley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred.
Past Grand President Pat Tanac
Chi Alumni Chapter has been notified by her family (Patron Bob Tanac and Daughter Joyce Tanac Schroeder, Chi Alumni) that Past Grand President Pat Tanac passed away Monday, December 3, 2018, at the age of 96.
She had been in poor health the last few months, but prior to that maintained her interest in LKS and Chi Alumni. She was Grand President 1966-1970, also served as Western Region Supervisor, Grand Secretary and Honorary Advisor and on the Trust Liaison Committee. She was a great friend and sister to all LKS members.
Obituary for Past Grand President Eileen Patricia "Pat" Hornall Tanac
Eileen Patricia "Pat" Hornall Tanac passed away on December 3, 2018. She was born March 2, 1922 at the Snoqualmie Falls Hospital, Snoqualmie, WA, to parents Thomas and Princess Stitham Hornall. Pat attended 1

grade, sporadically. She was diagnosed with Tuberculosis in the 3
rd
grade, spending 6 months in bed. Her mother taught her through the 8
th
grade, at home. Pat was home schooled before the word was coined! She entered Tolt High School as a freshman, graduating in 1940. The following year, she was the housekeeper for a family on Queen Anne Hill, and then entered the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. During school, Pat worked part-time at Stoneway Pharmacy and, later, at Hart's Apothecary Shop. After graduating in 1945, she chose to work for L.D. Bracken Pharmacy on 2
nd
Ave. in Seattle, for 5 years.
Pat met Robert Tanac, of Everett, WA, in Pharmacy School. After his sophomore year, he entered the Army. Following training at Camp Lee, Virginia, he was shipped to Paris to serve in the Quarter Master Corp for a year. Bob was discharged in January, 1945 and reentered Pharmacy School, graduating in 1947. He and Pat were married February 24, 1946.
Joyce Eileen was born September 27, 1950. Wesley James was born May 10, 1953 on Mother's Day.
During the 60's Pat was very involved with Lambda Kappa Sigma, a professional fraternity for Women in Pharmacy. She served in many offices on the Grand Council, including Grand President for two terms from 1966-1970. She traveled to various colleges and Schools of Pharmacy, visiting LKS Chapters during those years. She was presented with the Distinguished Service Citation for her years of service and dedication. She continued her interest with the local Chi Alumni Chapter.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Princess Stitham Hornall and Thomas Hornall, sisters Barbara Hornall Todd, Kaye Hornall Kooistra, brother-in-laws, Harry Todd and Robert Kooistra.
Pat is survived by her husband of 72 years, Robert, daughter, Joyce (George) Schroeder, son, Wesley (Dianne) Tanac, grandchildren Julie (Drew) Schroeder Gillespie, Nathan (Emily) Schroeder, Molly Ann (Eric) Tanac Druliner, Mallory (Doug) Tanac Hill and great-grandchildren Caden and Gavin Druliner and Braden Gillespie.
A Celebration of Life was held at The University House 4400 Stone Way N. Seattle, 98103 at 1:00 on Saturday, December 8. In honor of Pat, donations may be made to "Lambda Kappa Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter" c/o Nancy Horst 17404 Ashworth Ave. N. Seattle WA 98133.

What's New with Ewe?
Christina Inteso (Phi Alumni)
was invited as the first pharmacist to speak at the perinatal diabetes conference in New York City, NY. She talked about the role of the pharmacist on the care team and addressed ordering and cost concerns. This opportunity was also special because it was also the first annual Women Pharmacist Day!
 
Dr. Jeanne VanTyle (Phi Alumni)
was awarded the Butler Service Medal.
The Butler Service Medal is the second highest honor conferred by the Butler University Alumni Association. It recognizes emeriti faculty or retired faculty and staff for a lifetime of distinguished service to Butler University or their local community while at the same time achieving a distinguished career in their chosen profession and attaining a regional or national reputation. All recipients have had, in the course of their lifetime, a profound influence on the future course of Butler University. (Dr. VanTyle is 2nd from the right)

The Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Companies "Distinguished Young Pharmacist" Award recognizes new pharmacists for their dedication to and participation in pharmacy organizations, commitment to the practice of pharmacy and involvement in community activities.
Nicole Pezzino is a 2014 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and is currently an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy. Moreover, Pezzino has a clinical practice site at Weis Markets where she works as a community pharmacist and Certified Diabetes Educator. In this role she has also initiated an accredited Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) program and the Diabetes Prevention Program. Pezzino was also recently named a 2018-2019 Faculty Scholar by the National Association of Chain Drugstores Foundation and was previously one of PPA's Top Ten Under Ten Award recipients. She is also a member of the board of directors of the Lehigh Valley Pharmacists Association and serves as the Academia Practice Director on PPA's Board of Directors.
