The Tattered Cover Autographed Book Collectors' Club is a club for the true collector, the ardent bibliophile, and all lovers of the printed word. Members of the ABC Club receive one signed first edition chosen by our buyers and events staff each month. Selections represent both fiction and nonfiction.

Greetings FOTC (Friend of Tattered Cover),
Presidential election years are a strange time for bookstores. We are collectively so consumed by the campaign, by the news, by voting, that we have hardly any bandwidth left.
When the election ends, no matter the result, we look around and realize, "hey, the world and all its wonders are still here." The bubble of the body politic pops and we go back to our daily lives. And the first thing we notice is that the holidays are upon us.
Before Christmas and Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, we celebrate that most American of holidays: Thanksgiving. This is one of the two days on the calendar that Tattered Cover actually closes its doors. Unlike some chain retailers who open on Thanksgiving Day (really?), we want our staff to be able to spend time with family and friends, to relax, to enjoy, and to reflect on those things for which we're thankful.
We do reopen our doors on Friday, November 25, to usher in the official holiday shopping season, which rolls right into Indies First Day on Small Business Saturday on November 26. This is a day to celebrate all locally-owned, indie retailers. Whether it's Tattered Cover, or Twist & Shout Records, or Bonnie Brae ice cream, or any of the thousands of Denver-area local businesses, we encourage you to shop and dine locally. You'll be glad to discover or rediscover what makes Metro Denver such a special place.

Indies First is a national campaign of activities and events in support of independent bookstores, first envisioned by author Sherman Alexie in 2013. Lena Dunham, the bestselling author of
Not That Kind of Girl and creator and star of the critically acclaimed HBO series

, for which she also serves as executive producer, writer, and director, has been named the official spokesperson for Indies First Day 2016. The Campaign kicks off each November on Small Business Saturday, when independent bookstores host local authors, create special promotions, and feature fun games and giveaways. Once again we find ourselves inside the Dublin Murder Squad, this time with a detective who is at odds with just bout everyone in the place except her partner, a red-haired freckled seemingly-simple, or at least naive, detective who supports her at each turn. The tale hinges on the killing of a young woman who has ties to the police going back two the disappearance of her father when she was a gawky teen. As always, French is a great storyteller and her characters are fully realized and believable. Places and names, details about Dublin and its environs, pepper the narrative with props to the verisimilitude and add spice. Her books are always delight to mystery readers and those who just like a good tale told well. The process of delving into the psychology of the victim, the murderer and the detectives investigating the case become the real drivers of this book.
