Hello everyone,

So we're off to a great start! Both our year-round Youth and Adult programs are moving and grooving and I'm REALLY excited to be teaching again. It's going to be Spooky this month!!!!

Meanwhile, we're starting up a new season of Tap Explorations that I encourage you to attend. Jane Goldberg will be visiting on October 5th, 5-6pm (see below). If you don't know Jane, you really should come and check out what she's up to these days.

And just to remind you, the Bessie Awards are on Monday, October 14th (7:30pm) at NYU Skirball.

Don't forget we're closed for Halloween and I'll see you in the funny papers,

Tony Waag
Artistic Director

TAP EXPLORATIONS
Saturday, October 5, 2019 (5-6pm)

Jane Goldberg - Tap Goddess of the Lower East Side, now resting on her iconic laurels in the lower depths of Tribeca, will present fun and funny observations about her multidimensional, pioneering contributions to the history of tap dance. Her talk will describe in detail her connections to the master hoofers, how she jumped through hoops to find their phone numbers and coaxed them back on stage; her work organizing By Word Of Foot, one of the original tap festivals; her friendship and long-standing (and at times affectionately combative) correspondence with Gregory Hines; her foray into Hollywood and out again; why it took her 20 years to finish writing her book, Shoot Me While I'm Happy; her many literary musings and critiques on the art form; and most of all, her love of making people laugh with Rhythm and Schmooze, her comedy tap act. Fabulous footage will be shown, of course.
Free to ATDF students & families.
Open to the public, $5 donation recommended.

Ayodele Casel + Arturo O'Farrill
September 24 - 29, 2019

"A tap dancer of unquestionable radiance" (The New York Times), Ayodele Casel joins six-time GRAMMY Award winner Arturo O'Farrill to create a collaborative world premiere. Rooted in Afro-Latin jazz culture, both artists share a common musical language that flows freely from modal jazz to stride piano to danzón to salsa and rhumba. Joined by a team of incredible musicians and tap dancers, Casel and O'Farrill explore genre-bending music and dance filled with unbridled joy.
