PORT O'CONNOR TOY RUN
With the support of our Club Members, Corporate Sponsors and participants of the Lone Star Shootout last July, we are proud to have donated well over $3,000 in new toys to the Port O'Connor Toy Run!  We would like to especially thank John and Samantha Bowen, owners of Elite Diesel for collecting and donating TONS of toys to the Toy Run and for being the Club's designated Santa boat!  Thank you for your generosity and your support!

MIKE JOHNSTON
We are very sad to say goodbye to our longtime friend Mike Johnston.  Mike passed away on Saturday, December the 1st.  A founding Club member and a long time corporate sponsor, Mike was an avid supporter of the Club and the Lone Star Shootout.  We will miss Mike's infectious smile and kind words.

Memorial service information can be found online at: SERVICE.

CAPTAIN'S CORNER
Written by Captain Kevin Deerman
It's hard to believe that we are already into December and another Wahoo season is just around the corner. The Winter Wahoo Championship has quite a few returning boats as well as a good number of new teams signing up for their 2019 tournament which runs from January 1st through March 31st. The water temp is still slightly warm out around the normal target areas at 74-75 degrees but will hopefully drop a bit over the holidays. If anyone needs any new Wahoo gear don't forget about our Corporate Sponsor Jeco's Marine and Tackle in Port O'Connor and longtime club supporter Serious Tackle Serious Tackle. They both have everything you'll need as well as some new products I'm looking forward to trying out. Merry Christmas to everyone!
THE LEARNING CURVE
Written by Captain Troy Day
Recreational billfish landings are in through the 3rd quarter of 2018, which includes pretty much all the tournaments, so numbers shouldn't change from here. The number of both blue marlin and white marlin are down compared to 2017 (56 from 62 and 43 from 61, respectively), while roundscale spearfish are up. Overall landings ( Billfish Landings   ) should be down a little less than 10% from 2017.  On the other hand, we're seeing the tournaments in the eastern gulf steadily increase their minimum lengths on blue marlin (Mississippi Gulf Coast and Mobile Big Game Club will both be 110" next year).

While we're at it, I would be remiss to not include an article recently published by TBF on tournament's minimum size limit ( TBF Minimum Length )  . I don't necessarily agree completely, as our fishing is different than the eastern gulf (notice no Texas tournaments are included), but we keep seeing more big fish each year too. This past summer had to be a record year for the number of big fish during the Texas tournament season.
CLUB AWARDS PROGRAM
Wahoo season is almost upon us!  Make sure your 2018 membership is current if you plan to compete in the Yearlong Tournament Awards Program Wahoo Division!  Memberships can be renewed online.
