WORDS  MATTER

There are only  two ways
 to live your life.
 One is as though
      nothing is a miracle.
The other is as though
      everything is a miracle.

QUICK   TIP
(or maybe slow this time)

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH HYGGE
(HOO-ga)

"The Danish art of 'hygge' (pronounced HOO-ga) emphasizes kindness to
oneself, moments of comfort from simple things like candlelight, cozy  socks, warm baked goods, quiet dinners with friends. The idea is that  when one is kind to oneself, it is easier to be kind to others. I see  a need especially for reframing the period after the celebrations are  over and the bleakness of mid-winter sets in.

"Hygge is important in combating the long winter darkness in northern
climates, but people feel the post-holiday letdown even in warmer,  sunnier places. Hygge can be any-thing that looks or feels like self-care,  and can be different for everybody, though there is much hygge in quiet  companionship with one other person or a small group..."

COMPOST  CORNER

Q.  What should we do with old patio furniture with metal fatigue?

A.  As long as the chairs are a  majority metal (which this  looks to be), then we can  recycle them as scrap metal. W e can pick these up  curbside by appointment at  no charge on our  Recycle More route,  or they could be dropped  off at our facility  (also no charge).

For other "mixed-material"
furniture items that may have  a small amount of metal but  are mostly fabric, vinyl,  painted wood etc. - we can  pick them up for a charge  as a bulky item, or they  an be dropped off at our  facility using our 1x/year  bulky item coupon
(which was mailed to
customers in November).

Email questions about  Curbside Composting or  recycling to
" Compost Corner."

CanDo's  VISION  QUEST  IS  BEING  PUT  INTO   ACTION   WITH  A  SPARKLING  NEW  WEBSITE

What makes you love some websites and tear your hair out over others? CanDo seeks a couple of people to join us for a short-term project with long-term impact.

A small group of core members has already done preliminary work. Soon, we'll hire a pro to make the magic happen. But we'd value the input and experience of another couple of CanDo supporters. Let's   meet over tea to think through a website that authentically reflects this remarkable organization, one where neighbors  can easily find ways to help make our community shine.

Two possibilities for your input:

1.  Meet at hilary's in Napa for 90 minutes on Thursday, February 21. Please let us know whether you prefer a 10AM or 6PM start RSVP  here W rite WEBSITE GATHERING in the subject line.

or

2.  Email a brief note with features you might like to see on CanDo's new website (e.g. font large enough to read with ease; plenty of white space). Or share the URL of a website you love and tell us what it is that appeals most.  Write WEBSITE IDEAS in the subject line.

Visit Napa Valley CanDo's current website here
Thanks for your input.

A  CALL  TO  ACTION

As with many of our endeavors, at the heart of CanDo's Napa Food Project are an amazing group of volunteers. This Steering Committee keeps the project on track. We're looking for 2-3 new folks to join in as we look to refine and enhance the project's effectiveness.

Responsibilities:  Steering Committee members gather for 90 minutes just six times a year. They also take on a task that appeals to them (e.g. on pick-up days at the warehouse or entering data, sending out emails or organizing volunteers, ordering supplies, etc.) We stay connected the rest of the time through the wonders of email. These are people you'd like to know. Gatherings are well-organized, fun, and the food's good.

Interested?  Join us for our next gathering. Listen. Pipe in when it suits you. See if helping to turn green bags into food for friends you haven't yet met might be a project that fits.

The Choices We Make

Napa Valley CanDo seeks to inspire and facilitate action  by alerting interested Valley residents about opportunities for service. If you participate as a volunteer in an activity that you learned about through Napa Valley CanDo, whether initiated by CanDo or another organization, please take personal responsibility for your involvement. Use common sense. Only you can determine whether an activity is a good fit, that is to say  compatible with your interests and abilities.
