FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO
Find Your Hires at the Skilled Trade Jobs Fair
Michael Strech, President and CEO
Every day the North State Building Industry Foundation combats the labor shortage our industry has faced for years.  These hardworking individuals prepare at-risk youth to enter the workforce, coordinate high school interns and work with community colleges to provide construction management options with hands-on training. Each year there is one event that helps bring all of this hard work to fruition.

The Skilled Trades Job Fair is a yearly event held by the Foundation at the Citrus Heights Community Center.  This Job Fair's purpose is to connect companies with workers who are eager to work in the building and construction industry. Whether exhibitors are looking to hire on the spot or gain potential future candidates, this event brings forth industry driven people.

Amanda Reynaud, the Foundation's assistant director, has made the event her own this year. Working with Rick Larkey, she has identified the needs of the hiring companies and expanded the job seekers to include both entry-level and career advancement candidates.  Additionally, the Foundation is seeking out bilingual attendees interested in the construction field to be among the job candidates.

The Foundation has set a goal of 40 hiring companies to be present at this event. In previous years up to 400 job seekers have attended to meet the exhibitors. The Foundation and I expect that with the improvements being made this year we should have no problem breaking records with attendance this year.

I encourage all BIA members to look at their upcoming hiring needs for 2019 and be a part of the 2019 Skilled Trades Job Fair. As we are always in need of good employees, it just makes sense to seek out those that have a passion for our Industry.

Fifth Annual Skilled Trades Job Fair
The Skilled Trades Job Fair connects job seekers and employers from all over the Sacramento Region in industries like HVAC, Plumbing, Framing, Landscape, Concrete, and more. The job fair features not only skilled trades positions, but support and professional positions as well - from scheduling and office support to project management.

This year, in addition to inviting candidates who are focused on finding a job, we're also reaching out to those who are working and may be looking to take the next step in their career, anticipating more than 400 job seekers. Due to employer feedback, we will also be promoting this event in the Spanish speaking community.

COMMUNITY
Los Rios Colleges Foundation
The Los Rios Colleges Foundation would like to invite a BIA member to serve on their Board of Directors in 2019. The BIA has had a long partnership with Los Rios that goes far beyond the association's endowment. The previous financial contributions, participation of scholarship applications and the linkage to our own Foundation are all examples of the healthy working relationship between our industry and Los Rios.
We believe that the Foundation would greatly benefit from the participation of a BIA member on their Board of Directors.  If you are interested in this position, please email Mike Strech
