The Poverty Simulation Experience is an interactive, professional development tool that provides a window into the lives of low-income families and the struggles they face to overcome barriers of joblessness, homelessness, crime, illiteracy, and lack of quality childcare. The simulation captures a month-long experience in the lives of low-income families. Participants gain a better understanding of the challenges associated with living in poverty and emerge with a greater sensitivity to the plight and needs of these families.

Health and Wellness Tips

February marks heart health month. If you didn't already know, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women. This is a great time to learn more about how important good heart health is and take the necessary steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

    • Only 27% of people can identify all the major symptoms of a heart attack and know how to call 911 immediately when they occur. According to the CDC, the major signs of a heart attack are:
      • Chest pain or discomfort
      • Upper body pain or discomfort in the arms, back, neck, jaw, or upper stomach
      • Shortness of breath
      • Nausea, lightheadedness, or cold sweats[Centers for Disease Control and Prevention]
