SFGG 14 vs. Santa Monica 16
Center E. Okusi scores in his first game of the season.
Hooker and captain Neil Barrett scored
the initial try.
Sheeran Field, Treasure Island, San Francisco -- For the second time in this young Pacific Rugby Premiership, SFGG made enough mistakes to lose a game. Santa Monica notched their second win by capitalizing on the home team's errors by a score of 16-14. SFGG scored first with a 75 meter dash down the sideline initiated by the backs with good inside support resulting in captain Neil Barrett's score of a try (converted) about 10 minutes into the game. SFGG's solid defensive alignment then stopped Santa Monica's potent offense repeatedly, only to concede egregious errors, allowing Santa Monica's fly half, Max Rodman, to kick three penalties, then score a converted try with a rolling maul (following another SFGG penalty) and take a 13-7 lead at half time. SFGG scored a very patient try (converted) to close the gap, but Santa Monica held on to win the game. Coach Neil Foote was clearly frustrated with his young squad, noting that 20 minutes before kickoff, five players were yet to arrive. One, the reserve Prop, never appeared. The returning veteran players are equally frustrated with their young team mates, who don't seem to understand that losing a winnable game is not acceptable in this premier rugby league. Sonoma Raceway -- Big O Tires named Season Sponsor
SONOMA, Calif. --
Long-time Sonoma Raceway sponsor Big O Tires returns as the presenting sponsor of the raceway's 2019 season, as the wine country facility celebrates 50 years of racing in the Sonoma Valley.
In addition to entitling the Big O Tires Racing Season, the company also resumes its position as the Official Tire Retailer of Sonoma Raceway. In stores, customers can look forward to special discounts on select race tickets, as well as ticket vouchers with the purchase of select tires during the 2019 Big O Tires Racing Season.
"The Big O Tire dealers are proud to be back as a Sonoma Raceway sponsor, and we are looking forward to a great Big O Tires race season," said Sharon Lane, marketing director, Big O Tires. "Sonoma Raceway is the perfect venue to reach car enthusiasts who are in the market for the latest tires, wheels and automotive services."
Big O Tires has been serving customers in Northern California and Nevada for over 50 years offering name-brand tires, custom wheels and automotive services such as brakes, alignments, oil changes, auto repairs and fluid maintenance.
The agreement also includes a social media and web presence, as well as track signage and a fan display at the raceway's major events. The Big O Tires 2019 Racing Season will be highlighted by the 31st return of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 (June 21-23) and the 32nd NHRA Sonoma Nationals (July 26-28). Sports Prep Star -- Jovon McClanahan
Salesian-Richmond -- Basketball -- Senior
It's been a dominant first two months of the season for nationally-ranked Salesian, and Jovon McClanahan (above) has been right at the center of it. He showed that again on Jan. 26 at Solano College in Fairfield. He accounted for 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals to help lead the Pride to a convincing 65-41 victory over Nevada-power Clark-Las Vegas. The win improved Salesian to 24-0 and moved them into the Top 10 of the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Rankings. It also keeps the Pride firmly in the driver's seat for the No. 1 seed in the Open Division of the CIF Northern Regional playoffs which begin in late February. McClanahan's twin brother Jaden is also a starter and major contributor to the team's success.
