A Message from the Executive Director

As we wrap up 2018, I'm proud to say that our EPIC team's impact in the University of Windsor community continues to increase! Our events this quarter engaged more participants than ever: The RBC Business Model Canvas Competition attracted 15 teams from  across Ontario, and for the first time, a University of Windsor alumnus swept the awards, winning $12,500. The New Kids on the Blockchain Symposium attracted 130 registrants.  The 3D Print4Healthcare competition doubled the teams engaged this year, and showcased 6 finalists from UW, St Clair, L'Essor High School, and the broader Windsor community.  The winner of the competition drove down from Niagara to participate.  Our Libro Social Innovators are graduating, with 2 of the 3 social enterprises earning revenues, and the third planning to pilot their technology in 2019.  Finally, 23 Odette business consulting students working with EPICentre have developed capacity building strategies with 5 local charities and the O'Neil Foundation, as well as researched commercialization strategies with 5 UWindsor and 5 Oxford, U.K. based faculty inventors.

Looking forward to 2019 EPICentre will again host a legal consulting student group led by Prof Myra Tawfik from the Faculty of Law. Professor Tawfik is widely recognized as a prominent thought leader on innovation strategies for Canada.  The law group's goals will include strengthening Intellectual Property (IP) literacy and commercialization strategy in our community.  They will also coordinate some projects with Odette business consulting students.

Finally, we will be hosting our 5th EPICentre Anniversary party at WIllistead Manor on February 1.  We hope that everyone who has shaped entrepreneurship on campus over the past 15 years will attend!

We'd like to wish you all peace and joy during this holiday season!
