FEATURED EVENT: Classified Summit with Keynote Speaker Jim Sporleder
More than 200 staff members participated in the Classified Summit held at Century High School on Thursday, Jan. 31. The summit was a professional development opportunity for support staff, featuring breakout sessions on topics such as the "we" in wellness, supporting students in math, small group engagement at the elementary level, and many more. But the highlight was the keynote address by Jim Sporleder. Sporleder is currently a trauma-informed care consultant and coach who gained national recognition after leading Lincoln High School in Walla Walla, Washington, through a trauma-informed transformation earlier this decade that resulted in fewer behavior incidents, increased academic achievement, and higher graduation rates for students. His school's story was captured in the documentary "Paper Tigers." Sporleder's work was instrumental in HSDs implementation of trauma-informed care and wellness centers, which now exist in 15 of our schools.
