The Wild Side:
The Bald Eagle

Thanks to conservation efforts and data collected by citizen scientists that showed an increase in its population, the bald eagle, our national symbol, was able to be removed from the endangered species list in 2007. Bald eagles were considered to be rare in the 1960's when their populations had decreased to dangerously low numbers, due to the use of pesticides, such as DDT, as well as other hazards, like being shot and poisoned.

Would you like to have an opportunity to catch a glimpse of one or more of these majestic creatures? Join us here at Lake Crabtree for the 22nd Annual Great Backyard Bird Count from February 15th-18th, for one of our birding events. All events require preregistration.
